Company information

Dieu-Donnee River Lodge was established in 1986 by the current owners. Wim & Antoinette Meyer with their two daughters Jacqueline and Angelique re-located from Gauteng where Wim was a technical engineer and Antoinette in the banking industry. They bought the vacant piece of land next to the river in Southport and over the years changed their private residence into a successful Guest house. They called it Dieu-Donnee (French) which means “Gift from God”. It just feels so good that other people can also enjoy the peace and beauty of the property. For many business men and travelers over the past years, Dieu-Donnee became a second home where they can rest, relax and continue with their journey. We continue looking forward to welcoming guests at Dieu-Donnee River Lodge and to fulfill their expectations.

Neighbourhood information

Southport is a quiet and peaceful suburb 7 km north of Port Shepstone. The Southport beach has blue flag status with sharknets and life guards to compliment a day well spent. It is a perfect picnic spot as there are lots of trees and a natural tidal pool. Long safe strolls on the beach or just to enjoy rock fishing make Southport an enjoyable beach for locals as well as overseas guests. The untouched Bendigo Nature reserve is in the heart of Southport and one can enjoy the welcome of small buck, vivid monkeys and lots of birds on your early morning jogging route. During the summer months between 30 000 and 40 000 barn swallows roost in the reeds of the Umhlangamkulu river flowing through Southport. It is quite a spectacular view to watch them circle at sunrise and sunset. Here a traditional seaside holiday can be enjoyed with horse riding and a visit to a banana farm or curio shop, restaurants and good accommodation.
