At Le Gite, our mission is to offer affordable and sustainable lodging that goes beyond providing a comfortable stay. We are committed to minimizing our environmental impact through responsible memorable stay but also contributes positively to the environment and stability of the local communities. By embracing these core principles, we aim to create a lasting impact and inspire others to join us in our journey towards a sustainable and inclusive future. practices, promoting community stability through engagement, and fostering a deep appreciation for Uganda’s diverse landscapes and cultures. The meal we serve are all sourced locally and nearby our place, we promote local cooking.
Hello and Welcome to Le Gite, allow us to introduce ourselves. We are a family of four, Bakari, who is Ugandan and was raised in Kyambura. Iris a French national raised in Normandie. We have two children, Bahia aged 8 and Marius aged 5 and both born in Kigali as we have been living there since 2012. Iris came to work in Uganda fifteen years ago back in 2008, where she was volunteering in a private organization. This was her first time in Africa and absolutely fell in love with it. Iris and Bakari met shortly after and spent three years touring around Uganda and landed up in Bakari’s hometown next to Queen Elizabeth National Park and the village of Kyambura. This is where Bakari grew up and it immediately felt like home to Iris. Bakari has always paid attention and respected his fellow community members and is highly respected within the area. Bakari’s grandmother, known as Granny by everyone has also retired in Kyambura and is one of the village’s counselors. Bakari's dad is also from this area, really making it a special place for the whole family.
Plenty of activities await you around Kyambura! Take a stroll through the village, down to the mesmerizing gorges and the flowing river. Explore local communities, delve into their livelihoods, savor their cuisine, engage in conversations, absorb their wisdom, and foster meaningful exchanges of ideas. Visit various farms cultivating coffee, cotton, vanilla, and cocoa. We organize scenic walks around the crater lakes, nestled in the heart of 42 such lakes. A mere 30-minute drive leads to the Imaramagambo forest, adjacent to Kyambura Gorge – both renowned habitats of chimpanzees. Enjoy nature walks and embark on captivating chimp trekking experiences. For wildlife enthusiasts, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Ishasha Park offer exhilarating game drives. On the horizon stands the majestic Mountain Rwenzori, soaring to 5109 meters. En route to Kasese town, a 50-minute drive from Kyambura, discover hot springs and river access. Pack a picnic and relish a day swimming in the refreshing Kilembe River before returning to Le Gite for more adventures. Experience the wonders of the Kazinga Channel with a boat ride, where spotting animals like elephants, hippos, and buffalos is a common delight. Revel in the beauty of diverse bird species and the stunning Malachite kingfisher. Alternatively, find tranquility by sitting in the garden or on the terrace, engrossed in a good book while listening to the rhythmic beats of drums echoing through the valley or the melodies of birds. Take a refreshing dip in some of the crater lakes, or opt for relaxation at one of our partner pools, especially during the sun's intense heat right along the equator. Not to be overlooked is the magnificent Salt Lake, just a 20-minute journey away. The options are endless, promising a fulfilling and unforgettable stay at Le Gite.
