Gumdigger’s Tiny House is nestled in the rural beach paradise of Lake Ohia on the Karikari Peninsula, Doubtless Bay, Northland, NZ, minutes to Tokerau Beach, surrounded by native bush and farmlands and across the street from the Lake Ohia Reserve, NZ’s largest shallowest ephemeral lake and home to some of NZ’s rarest orchids birds and historical Gumdigging grounds. Enjoy our private, cute, cozy tiny house, built by a furniture maker, with teak floors, handmade door and other special touches. It is compact and minimalist and fully contained in the corner of our over 1 acre property surrounded with native bush, fern, pohutakawa trees, olive trees, giant Totara trees, and our banana and fruit orchard. Our tiny house has a full kitchenette with all the needs, two burner gas hob, microwave and more, queen size bed nook, small dining table for 2, full private bathroom with shower, and private deck with outdoor eating, sunning and bbq.
Kiara, welcome to our home in the Far North. Richard is a New Zealander, a carpenter and avid waterman, Kitesurfer, and SUPer and and I’m Kat, and have lived most of my life in Hawaii, where Richard and I met and raised our son. I’ve worked mostly as an artist in glass and metal, recently working in greestone, kauri gum, glass and metal jewelry and am part of the Mangonui Gallery collective of artists in the historical Mangonui Courthouse building. We both love the outdoors, stand up paddling on Lake Rotopokaka, hiking, fishing, gardening, music and walking and riding our bikes on the beach. We also have our little Foxie-Jack Russell dog, Millie, she’s in charge of vermin control, chasing off the possums and alerting us when guests arrive. She is very friendly and always excited to meet new people.
While you’re here, visit the beautiful beaches of the Karikari Peninsula and Doubtless Bay, only a 4 minute drive to 17 kilometers of white sandy Tokerau Beach, Rangiputa, Puweke Beach, Karikari Beach, Maitai Bay, Carrington’s Winery and golfing, surfing and kitesurfing, fishing, kayaking and hiking are minutes drive away. We’re 10 minutes drive to amenities, restaurants, shops and cafe’s at Taipa, Coopers Beach and Taumarumaru Reserve, Cable Bay and the beautiful historical town of Mangonui and Mill Bay. We’re 20 minutes drive to Kaitaia’s box stores and Saturday Farmers Market and a half hours drive to 90 Mile Beach and Ahipara. We are an hour and a half’s drive to the top of NZ and Cape Reinga, Te Paki Sand Dunes and Spirit’s Bay. South of us, a half hour’s drive is the beautiful Whangaroa Harbour and we’re less than an hour away from Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands airport.
