Shiroganeya is a traditional Japanese minshuku. Our host Maki-san was truly exceptional. She made sure our family of 6 were well-fed, well-rested, and well-prepared for our little hike to the main Togakushi shrine, which is a 7-min drive away. The...

Exclusive use – 2 to 8 people (including children; infants free of charge) can stay in the entire building for private use.You can spend a relaxing and leisurely time just the two of you, or with your family and/or friends. We accept guests staying for consecutive nights. Please consult with us regarding the number of guests. We do not accept accommodation for only one person .The inn is a traditional building located in the Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. It was built in 1936 - a calm, authentic Japanese-style Ryokan inn that retains the characteristics of the Taisho and Showa eras, using thick chestnut and zelkova timbers which are difficult to obtain today. There are three rooms: two 8-mat rooms (that can become one room) and one 8-mat room. The guest rooms’ open south-facing windows have great views of Mount Asama, Sugadaira, the Southern Alps, and even Mt. Fuji. The inn was founded in 1936 by my great-grandfather, Uichiro Tsukada. It has been closed since around 2000 due to the deterioration of the building, but in 2015 it was designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, so renovation work began in 2016 to return the building to its original state. The interior design is authentically Japanese, providing visitors with the atmosphere of an inn built between the Taisho and Showa eras. All guest rooms are furnished with tatami mats, and futons (Japanese-style bedding) are used instead of beds in keeping with the inn’s atmosphere. While still preserving the old architecture-style of the time when the inn was built, we have renovated the water supply system and upgraded the insulation, earthquake resistance. All dinners and breakfasts are regional dishes made with local ingredients and specialties. here are two types of private artificial hot springs. Original yukatas are also available. You can experience traditional Japanese culture such as buildings, food, and lifestyle.
My name is Maki Tsukada, currently the fourth-generation proprietress. My mother, who has over 40 years of cooking experience, is in charge of the cooking. We offer homemade Nagano cuisine. Kenta, our resident watchdog, welcomes you and sees you off. We will do our utmost to provide our guests with a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
The Togakushi area where the inn is located is in the Myoko Togakushi Mountain Range National Park, about 20 km by car from Nagano Station. Togakushi is home to five shrines: Hogakusha, Naka-sha, Okusha, Kutouryu-sha, and Hinomikosha. Many visitors make pilgrimages to these five shrines. Visitors can enjoy the pristine nature throughout all four seasons, and there are tourist spots with beautiful scenery such as Kagami Pond where nature walks while viewing wildflowers and birds are popular. Togakushi has an ancient path called "Togakushi Kodo" that leads to Togakushi Shrine. A popular route is the 12-km walk through the forest from the starting point of Ichino-torii to Togakushi Okusha Shrine. Hogo-sha and Naka-sha, where the inn is located, are designated as "Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings," and the old townscape of Togakushi, including the Shukubo group, is also worth seeing. The famous Togakushi soba can be enjoyed at dozens of restaurants, each with its own unique flavor. The village is also home to the Togakushi Ninja, and the athletic facilities at the Chibikko Ninja Village are very popular with children. Additionally, the Ninpo Museum is a fun and interesting place for adults to learn about Ninpo. In winter, Togakushi ski resort offers powder snow, backcountry skiing, and snowshoeing. Togakushi ski resort is 4 km away. Although it is not a large ski resort, it is popular for its good snow quality, varied courses, and magnificent scenery. It is 28 km to Myoko Suginohara ski resort and 30 km to Akakura Onsen ski resort. It takes about 45 minutes by car. Although the area was merged into Nagano City, there are no convenience stores, supermarkets, or family restaurants in the area due to its location in the national park. The numerous soba noodle stores close when they run out of soba, so we recommend that you have your meals at the inn.
