Hotel Tjarnir is ideally situated just 20 minutes from Akureyri, along Route 1 towards Lake Mývatn. Nestled in tranquil surroundings, our hotel offers easy access to beautiful hiking trails and serene lakes. We are also conveniently located just 10 kilometers from the legendary Goðafoss waterfall, providing you with a perfect base to explore the natural wonders of the area.
All our rooms are designed with your comfort in mind and feature private bathrooms, a television, and a hot water kettle with tea and coffee. We strive to provide a cozy and relaxing environment for our guests.

A bit about myself: I have dedicated my life to hospitality, working all over Iceland. I grew up on Stórutjarnir Farm, just up the road from the hotel, and I started my hospitality journey in this very hotel 20 years ago.
Today, it brings me great joy and pride to welcome you as the manager of Hotel Tjarnir. I am committed to ensuring that your stay is comfortable and memorable.

Hotel Tjarnir is part of a charming community surrounding the local primary school, which closes from June to August each year. Our serene surroundings offer a variety of outdoor activities, including hikes and scenic walking paths leading to nearby ponds. Just up the road, you can see Stórutjarnir Farm, where you can see farm animals grazing in the fields during the summer months.

Goðafoss Waterfall: Only 10 km away, the legendary Goðafoss waterfall is a must-see. Its stunning beauty and historical significance make it one of Iceland's most famous waterfalls.
Akureyri: Known as Iceland’s capital of the North, Akureyri is just a 20-minute drive from the hotel. Here, you can explore a variety of restaurants, shops, and cultural activities. Don’t miss the newly opened Forest Lagoon, a unique geothermal spa nestled in a natural forest setting.
