Join our creative and sociable household on the Isle of Lismore, to revive your spirit. Experience our unique hand crafted home, built using recycled stone, straw bales, local timber and a whole lot of creativity and helping hands. Enjoy conversation with your hosts and other guests, stunning vistas, gardens, loch and sea swims, abundant nature and a vibrant community. You have the option to join us for delicious meals with home baked bread, vegetables from the garden and croft reared lamb. We often have friends and international volunteers staying for stints and helping with the croft and garden, they will join us for meals and tea breaks in the house and use it as their home. Guests can either bring their own food supplies and prepare their own meals or join us for homecooked meals. We offer lunch which is normaly a hearty soup and home baked bread and a hearty home cooked dinner, both for a fee. There is also a cafe on the island where you can go for lunches and occassional evening meals and The Pierhouse restaurant a short boatride away. If you would like to join our mealtimes let us know of any dietery requirements in advance and we can hopefully create a tasty meal that caters to your needs. IMPORTANT! We are surrounded by fields of pollen. If you suffer from hay fever look elsewhere or come armed with plenty anti allergen tablets.
This is the home of an artist and a master carpenter. Every aspect of the build and interior is hand crafted: from willow towel rails to stairways carved from our own sycamore and Ash. Our home also serves as a gallery where you can live alongside, contemplate and purchase Sarah Campbell artworks and Mogwaii Design interiors. We also play and enjoy music and welcome musicians to our home. We have a dedicated music space with a grand piano, drumkit and a number of instruments which you are welcome to play. We have a conservatory surrounded by vibrant greenery which serves as a great quiet space to contemplate and be still. We have a sitting room (snug) with a Morso stove, projector and screen where we often congregate of an evening to watch films, read, make things or just chat. Beyond the kitchen is a library room with a floor to ceiling arched window boasting views of the flower garden, the sea and the Isle of Mull. We have a downstairs bathroom with a large bath and an upstairs toilet with a walk in shower. We also have a compost toilet and a utility room. The kitchen/diner is large with a big farmhouse table and comfy seating area. It really is the hub of the house with communal cooking, plenty discussions and lots of laughs. The kitchen has patio doors leading out to an L shaped deck and beech pebble courtyard which has a small fire pit and wooden stools for outdoor gatherings. The flower garden is a good size and leads through to a large kitchen garden and polytunnel
The Isle of Lismore is an often overlooked gem! Gaelic for Great Garden, it lives up to its name with an abundance of wild flower, birds and sea creatures. It is brimming with historical relics including two castles, two Pictish forts and has a fabulous museum (open 11am to 4pm April to October). The island also has three pristine and picturesque lochs (great for wild dips), and many fabulous walks. It has a well stocked community shop and there is also a great gift shop attached to the museum. Bikes are available to hire with "Lismore Bike Hire", and "Explore Lismore" can deepen your knowledge of the island with landrover tours, home baked picnics and a range of island experiences. There are a number of great makers and entrepreneurs on the including. You can browse and purchase their offerings at various places on the island whether it be in a Gallery, studio, revamped telephone box or one of the honesty boxes dotted around Lismore.
