Anne and Bruce are South Africans who have retired to France in pursuit of a lifelong dream. We looked at 50 houses before selecting the Manoir de Rieuzal. We are passionate about history and are frequently complimented on our ability to share our ten years' knowledge of the region to enhance our guests' experiences. Coming from a multicultural country, we love meeting our multinational guests. We speak English and French.

Property information

This 18th century manor house is situated in a hamlet 2.5 km from Loubressac. It proudly overlooks the Dordogne River valley with a superb 180 degree panoramic view that incorporates three chateaux. You will enjoy this view from the breakfast terrace Entrance to the property from the Rieuzal lane is through a large stone-arched wooden door . One arm of the L- shaped house provides guest accomodation. The large bedrooms are comfortable and stylishly furnished. The beds are Queen size extra length (160x200), the linen is pure Egyptian cotton with goose down duvets and pillows. Hypoallergenic bedding is also available on request. Each bedroom has a good size en suite bathroom, double washbasins and a shower or bath/shower. There are sitting room and limited kitchenette facilities. All bedrooms have air conditioning and flat screen tv for your comfort.

Neighbourhood information

Within 15 minutes to half an hour of the Manoir de Rieuzal are numerous architectural, cultural, sporting and outdoor activities. The three Plus Beaux Villages of Loubressac, Carrennac and Autoire have exceptional charm. The UNESCO sites of Rocamadour and the Gouffre de Padirac are exceptional. Three nearby châteaux to visit are Castelnau, Montal and St Laurent les Tours. The magnificent surrounding countryside is ideal for walks, kayaking and fishing. Most villages host a market day selling delicious artisanal produce. The Lot is well known for its Cahors wines. Good restaurants abound in the summer season: we can assist you with advice. The Michelin Star 'Trois Soleils de Montal' restaurant borders on a 9-hole golf course.There are numerous brocantes and fairs. Those with an interest in Gallo-Roman history will enjoy the guided tour on the final battle of the Romans against the Gauls at Uxellodonum. The architecture of the region has been heavily influenced by the English occupation during the Hundred Years' War. The region is also well known for the brave French Resistance fighters of WWII. There is a museum on Neanderthal man at La-Chapelle-aux-Saints. There are numerous artisanal produce farms to visit. A boat ride on the subterranean river of the Gouffre de Padirac is awe-inspiring and refreshing on a hot day. At Beaulieu sur Dordogne you can take a ride on a gabare, a flat-bottomed barge that was used to transport goods before the advent of railways. For the more adventurous, hot air ballooning may be arranged from Collonges, Turenne or Curemonte depending on the season.
