Algodones is a safe and friendly town offering world class dental care, prescription eyeglasses and pharmaceuticals (274 Dentists, 150 opticians and 80 pharmacies…more or less) at a much lower price than the US. If you can get to Yuma, just out of town is a 5 minute border crossing (very easy walk) that can save you thousands of dollars. During the day there are probably more Canadians and Americans than Mexicans in town. By 5pm, even the Mexicans seem to have left as it is a ghost town. Hotel California provides a bar and a restaurant until early evening. After that there are a couple of pharmacies and gas station that stay open late. Oh there are a couple of girly bars, but I only walked by and listened to their sales pitch. Not to convincing! The people are all friendly and appreciate the presence of foreigners.

If your main language is English, you will have no problem communicating in Los Algodones. The people who live and work there are friendly and helpful and accustomed to a constant flood of foreigners coming for medical services, mostly dental. Many clinics include transportation service as there are no taxis. There are a few three star hotels which are quite serviceable and other smaller comfortable hotels to choose from. Dining out is usually not too expensive, from just grabbing a smoothie or a coffee and a snack to enjoying a delicious sit down dinner in one of many popular restaurants. Follow your nose to find the tastiest food. Pharmacies are almost as ubiquitous as are the dental clinics. Molar City, as it is sometimes called, is not a resort kind of town. Its economy is based on medical tourism.

A mattress pad would allow me to give the room an excellent rating. If going to Molar City, I do recommend California Suites. Really good food at the restaurant and quite affordable. Make sure you ask for a soft bed. Take room 11 if available.

The town of Algodones is not a tourist location, but is a place for people who want to get quality, reasonably priced dental care. There are also optomotrists and pharmacies offering services at bargain prices. Crossing the border from the US (Yuma AZ which is only a few miles away) was easy, although be careful not to return later in the day as it can get very crowded at the border. The dental services we had were amazing and better than anything we'd experienced in the US or Canada - but we looked carefully at reviews and made sure we had a really good dentist. The locals all spoke English and were extremely helpful and friendly. We also saved a LOT of money, compared to what we would have paid in the US or Canada. There are street vendors and you can buy Mexican crafts, jewelry, leather etc if you have some extra time - but it really isn't set up for tourism. Do pick up some real vanilla extract at a great price. You can also get some prescription meds without a prescription and at a good price (Viagra anyone?). Restaurants are in short supply and the town pretty much closes down at 5:00 pm. The ones that are there are well-priced and seem good. It's pretty much all Mexican food (typical tourist Mexican food), so if you're looking for something different, try staying in Yuma and crossing over every day. I would highly recommend the town if you need dental work, glasses or reasonably priced medicines, but it is not a fun, tourist destination.

    I was pleasantly surprised.

I was pleasantly surprised. The locals try to sell everything but that’s ok with me because I really brought a lot of custom /handmade souvenirs for my family. I walked everywhere didn’t need a rental . One stop shop. The people were very polite & humble. I stayed at the California Hotel & suites it was very updated nice & clean the staff went above & beyond for me and I felt safe at the hotel. I was more impressed with the dental work I received from Custom Dental Art(Dr.Christian & Dr.Ruben) very knowledgeable Surgeon/dentist if u ever need implants or root canal try them out 10/10. Also I had my own personal tour guide name David from Custom Dental Art. Crossing the boarder was a breeze. So many street vendors no shortage of variety of food and goods to purchase. Not to mention there is a grocery store for fresh fruit. Try the Beach Hut (PePe) great pizza and homemade ice cream Overall 10/10 FYI:I traveled alone from Tn. Stayed 5 days and I can’t wait to return. I felt welcomed and Safe

The rooms are very small but super clean. I had everything I needed and the size meant nothing. The staff is very friendly. I loved having the restaurant/bar there where I hung out everyday making new friends with other dental tourists. I felt very safe as a single female and would definitely recommend this hotel!

Very helpful and friendly staff on both stays at this property. Perfect location for all professional offices in Los Algodones. Convenient restaurant on site and several other good eateries within a short walk. The rooms are fairly basic, but comfortable, clean and secure. Would stay again.

Breakfast was not included, but the restaurant in the same plaza served a very good breakfast and dinner for a reasonable price. The location was very central and easily walkable to shops and professional buildings. Underground secure parking was very helpful and included in the hotel price.

The price. Everything was clean. Having the restaurant attached to the hotel is very nice and the food is good and reasonably priced. Had extra storage underneath the bed.
