It's worth staying for a day and a night just to see the...
It's worth staying for a day and a night just to see the historic area with the French colonial buildings. The place was pretty empty when we were there and some restaurants were closed so it's not really that happening during the rainy season. Managed to get two nice sunsets which was a bonus because it was raining for much of the time we were there and we had zero expectations of seeing a sunset on the Mekong whilst in Thakhek. It's a great view of city and village life.
It's a great view of city and village life. You do the loop and that some what sums up your trip. I did hit the Mountain you take a boat under and I took the "Back road" by mistake and ended up driving 58km though Laos villages Seriously the best part of the trip. I got to see a side of Laos 99% Of tourist never will so def. something worth seeing if you find that back road, its not hard to see if you do the loop backwards from what hotels advise you. the caves are great, Dragon cave is a SERIOUS hike, the first few caves just east of the town are barely 5 minute visits and are used for praying not so. much tourism.Guest review byDavidUnited States

The staff were so kind & helpful - they helped us to arrange a bike for the Thakhek Loop, provided us maps, gave us a room to leave our big bags in for the Loop and took our laundry to do whilst we are gone. Binh and staff work meticulously hard to keep everything spotless. Showers and toilets are cleaner than those in the west! Comfy beds with privacy curtains too.
