I was in Champassak during the Wat Phou Festival which was...
I was in Champassak during the Wat Phou Festival which was great and interesting and then returned for one night after being in the 4000 Islands before heading north. The Temple are marvellous and would like to see it without all the tourists and festival goers but I enjoyed the festival particularly the opening and the Alms Ceremony for the monks. We went down the Wat Oum Tomo by a small private boat - a 2 hour trip each way around the island, but it was well worth it. Champassak is peaceful and encourages relaxation although I found bicycling in the rice paddies gave me insight into country life. My most vivid memory is sitting by the Mekong and watching the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen over a river that was as still as glass.Guest review byJanineAustralia - 6.0

The roads in Champasak are very bad with massive pot holes, I recommend to hire a 4wd. Pakse has lots of markets to look at and there are some beautiful waterfall to look at just 1-2 hours drive. The Mekong river is amazing to look at also. I highly recommend going to the Vat Phou.Guest review byHardisty

Incredibly, the family who own and operate this guesthouse thought it was a good idea to hold a surprise 7 hour, drunken karaoke party just a few metres from our door. After several requests to stop they did eventually move a short distance, but the torture continued. I’m not sure how often they host karaoke parties, but I do know that there are several better hotels and guesthouses in town.Guest review byMarkCanada
