Great location, very close to Princes Street and to numerous buses (including a bus from/to the airport and hop on-hop off busses), restaurants, shops. You could also walk almost everywhere. The room was very spacious and clean and the bathroom as well! The shower was really spacious and hot water would come out almost immediately and loved it! The bed and pillows very comfortable! There was a complementary bottle of water and shortbreads each day. There was a coffee machine in the room and nespresso capsules, so you could make your own coffee at any time (tea was also available). The staff was polite.

My son Max and I had a magical stay at The Balmoral. The staff were just wonderful. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay extra special for Max (age 9). Our trip to Edinburgh was a special treat because he's a huge Harry Potter fan. He absolutely loved Edinburgh and all it's Potter lore but the stay in the Balmoral was by far the highlight of his trip because of how kind everyone was to us (as well as it being a beautiful luxurious hotel of course).

FAQs about hotels in Edinburgh

A Feast for the Senses

A city of heritage, heart and of course Hogmanay, Scotland’s capital is vibrant and edgy. Whether or not you come for one of its many festivals, Edinburgh is quite simply a feast for the senses.

The wealth of Edinburgh sights ranges from Holyrood Palace to the Botanical Gardens, Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Overseeing them all is majestic Edinburgh Castle. Be there at sunset on a clear day to see the city below bathed in a warm, orange glow. Simply stunning.

Wandering the streets, the smell of fish and chips wafts by, with the unique twist of salt ‘n’ sauce – a must-try variation on this favourite dish. Follow it up with a smooth whisky and you’ll start to feel like a local.

For a taste of Scottish culture, a kilt-wearing busker often plays the bagpipes on Waverley Bridge, while traditional folk music can be heard in some Old Town pubs. Complete your stay with a rugby match at Murrayfield or a round at one of the city’s 14 golf clubs, and you’ll have the true Edinburgh experience.

Whether you are looking for hotels near Edinburgh Airport or accommodations in the city center, Booking.com has a great range to choose from.

    What a magical city.

What a magical city. Calton Hill, Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Old City are must see for first timers. We loved the ghost tour in the evening, it was excellent. We stayed near the Portobello beach, enjoyed it tremendously, especially breakfasts in a local café with an ocean view. Can't wait to go back!

    It was very crowded.

It was very crowded. I did not check that due to the number of visitors in this time of the year we need to buy the tickets to the castle at least one day prior our visit. All tickets were sold out when we arrived. Keep this in mind.

    Good city transport.

Good city transport. Local buses (Lothian) and Trams are good to explore the city. Ticket prices are affordable. Museums, beaches and City Centre are a few examples of fantastic tourist places in Edinburgh. The live digital display trackers for local buses & trams are superb! A variety of cuisines are available. Booking. com and Google Maps supported me a lot in organising my travel schedule. I stayed at HFS The Mill House. Very good place for short holiday stays. I visited the following restaurants: Chennai Marina, Flavors of Andhra and McDonald in Gorgie Park Road. I enjoyed the Indian cuisine. The food quality and taste was good in all the above-mentioned restaurants. Ranga Indian restaurant (near Portobello beach) was superb!

Edinburgh has so much to offer, especially during the Fringe month. Sightseeing buses. Hundreds of comedy, music, theatre, children’s and cabaret events taking place. Ghost tours and history tours to take. As well as the Castle and the Tattoo there are places just a short bus or tram journey away to visit, Leith, Newhaven, Portobello beach and many more. Everywhere we went the service was good and those serving very friendly and pleasant.

Edinburgh is a vibrant fun city with surprises around every corner. Saturday's Farmer"s Market on Grass Market Street is not to be missed. Great place for shopping, pubs and cafe's and people watching. Any of the hop-on, hop-off busses is a great, cost effective way to see the major sites of the city. And if you can visit during the first 3 weeks of August, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is not to be missed! The Tattoo is a performance by international military bands and performers that takes place on the esplanade of the Edinburgh Castle. The venue is spectacular and the concert stunning!!!!! We had dinner the night of the Tattoo at the Cannonball Restaurant on Castle Hill Road. It has an interesting history and great location but we found the food quality to be average and overpriced. But from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse along the Royal Mile to Arthur's Seat and the Royal Yacht Britannia, Edinburgh doesn't disappoint!

What a city!! What fantastic people!! I will definitely be returning, the vibe and energy of the city during the Fringe is something else. And as for the Edinburg Military Tattoo WOW what an experience. If you ever have an opportunity to visit this amazing city, do it, you won't be disappointed. Just remember to book those Tattoo tickets way in advance.

The location is perfect when you want to explore the city centre of Edinburgh. The breakfast is a buffet where you can find croissants, muffins, all different types of drinks, eggs, bacon and sausages, to summarize a full breakfast. They do vegetarian options as well. The staff was very helpful. If you drive to the hotel, there is a parking nearby. There was a daily discount offered by the hotel. I definitely recommend staying at the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh Royal Mile Hotel.

The Hotel is a wonderful resort for relaxing and family gathering. It has an amazing garden which we enjoyed so much. It is not close to City, but we reckoned it's the best place to stay in Edinburgh for holiday. It is only about 30mins drive to city centre. The room is spacious for a family of 4. It serves delicious breakfast till 11am, which allowed sleeping in a bit everyday. Their gym room was well-equipped. And the swimming pool was great. Their dinner was of high standard.
