Had a fantastic stay at La Grande Maison. The room was quite exceptional and definitely had that wow factor. The room had high ceilings and traditional 'chateau' windows, opening onto the courtyard, everything you'd expect in a 'grande maison' and more. Ben is a delightful host, attentive and a font of all local knowledge - including the local supermarket :-) Breakfast was one of the best we had had in ages. Juice, coffee, breads, yoghurt, boiled egg. Perfectly cooked and balanced meal. Thank you Ben and Billie, hopefully we will be back next year for a bit longer

We have stayed at many chateaus in France (we love staying in them) but this truly tops them all! Staying with the heir to this castle (his family has been here 400+ years) was a gift we will probably never have again (except for returning here, which we will). The family's portraits are on the walls still, the courtyard of honor, the drawing rooms, even a harpsicord. For Americans it was the heir of this Chateau at the time which led the French brigade assisting the Americans in the American Revolution! He was shot and buried in Rhode Island. Breakfast was delightful - delicious bread and viennoiseries and the most delicious coffee of our trip. Thank you!

Boom Coeur was beautifully traditional and historic. The village was picturesque and very interesting. It was a great location to stop off on our journey south.

The owners, Adrian and Jill, were delightful and very friendly. They also assisted us with various issues we had with extreme good grace. The Gate Keepers cottage was beautifully done up and breakfast was tasty…. Fresh Croissants and pain de raisin straight from the bakery…lovely meal out at Trompe Souiris. Recommended. We wish you every success with your new ventures.

    Pas-de-Jeu is a small village but with great access to lots...

    Pas-de-Jeu is a small village but with great access to lots of places of interest both by car and bike. We preferred not to cycle along the busier roads but did enjoy going to the village and Chateau of Oiron; the village, donjon, lake and 'sentier des lavoires' of Moncontour; and La ligne verte from La Roche Rigault to Mont-sur-Gesnes which is a pretty village with a recently restored chateau. Further afield we went to Chinon and Candes-Saint-Martin, and have previously visited Doue la Fontaine and would have liked to visit many more places including Richelieu and Saumur. All in all this was a great base for us
