What did I like? Where do I start? I liked...no, I loved every minute of my stay at Maqai. It is as close to paradise as I'll allow my pragmatic mind to entertain. From the relative remoteness to the natural beauty, the super-relaxed atmosphere to the genuine warmth of the staff, this is a very special place. More of a traveller vibe than that of the well-worn tourist path of the islands closer to Nadi. Slightly rustic? Sure, but only in the best possible way. Cathy (manager) ran as tight a ship as possible on a tropical island in the Pacific. She was welcoming and prompt with her email replies to my questions regarding all the various water sports and cultural experiences on the island. In no particular order, the following staff members quickly began to feel like old friends...Navo, Etta, Sala, Emosi, Soni, Tui, Junior, Jale, Johnny, Mama's Soke & Luce, Netta and Suki (four legged and furry). They all exude such an authentically friendly yet service oriented approach to their individual roles. I can't speak highly enough of how they looked after me. It is up to you how much or how little activity you schedule into your day on Qamea. Highlights included surf trips to the outer reefs, snorkelling and lunch on the Island Tour, the Sunday morning village visits and church service, and the food. Crikey, the food. I had to ask for slightly less portions by dinner time, or I would have no room left for evening kava with the locals! If you're reading this review and considering/comparing it with other options in Fiji, fair enough, but I honestly feel it is a rare and rich experience worth every cent and the added travel time to get there. I felt like at home,they give the feeling to be a part of the family.I had every morning breakfast of my choice and always a very delicious dinner.

We enjoyed our stay in all aspects. The lovely family who run the place are locals which means you get great recommendations from them, highly recommend. The rooms are very comfortable to guarantee a good sleep.They have the perfect place. We thank you so much for all the kind hospitality, we are lucky to experience all the goodness

Fabulous place , you should stay at l'East a week

I had a perfect time with the most lovable Fiji family homestay. Sia, Charley, Jima and all the boys cared a lot for me and we had an amzing time together! Sia ist the best cook in all of Fiji, better then in restaurant i can tell, love her veggi food, fresh fish, curry and lots of fruits every day..i went horse riding with Charley, with the boys on the boat to honeymoon island for snorcheling, the reef is directly in front the homestay, amazing natural landscape! Pete the driver took me to lavena coastal walk in national park and drives you everywhere on Taveuni 😀i loved the cute dogs and the kids in the village are so fun. My room was nice, i had my own little cozy space and Sia and everyone makes everything perfect, helping me with all questions, embracing me like a daughter (as i'm travelling on my own), i felt welcome like at home. Got emerged in the real Fiji life, I came as guest and left as friend. This family is a jewel and i will never forget this beautiful time with them!

My partner and I stayed at Camp Taveuni for four nights. We originally booked the small twin room but upgraded to the larger en-suite when we arrived. Tons of space and a super comfortable bed. No AC, but the two large fans were more than sufficient given the relatively mild temps when we were there (low 80s). We appreciated the filtered water from the bathroom tap and that the room was tidied up every day while we were out. Allen really made our time in Taveuni. He picked us up from the airport and gave us a brief tour of town to help us get our bearings. He made sure we were always set with activities and dinner plans for the next day (with no pressure to do or book anything in particular) and facilitated interactions between his guests. His extensive local knowledge was invaluable. Don't miss out on the Lavena Coastal Walk or the kayaking trip out to the islands (but make sure the tide isn't too low to easily navigate the reef!). A few other details: the property is located up a dirt road close to town. It can be a bit muddy if it's been raining, but we walked to and from the Dive Cafe multiple times without issue. We also enjoyed the two dogs (including a chaotic but adorable puppy) and the cat on the property. We were able to do laundry for a reasonable price, and there was a washing station and hanging lines for our wet clothes when we came back from activities. Overall, we had a fantastic time in Taveuni and would highly recommend staying at Camp Taveuni as an alternative to the resorts.

The caretakers were awesome. It was easy to organise everything through the owner. Diving and snorkeling next door. Great kitchen set up. Insane views! Comfortable bed and living space . So peaceful and private.

Breakfast was very good and we could choose from a list of food, from pancakes to eggs, including muesli and fruit.
