We visit Sønderborg quite often. It's location at the Baltic Sea and close to the German border make it an attractive location for a day trip or weekend escape. Sønderborg is a good location for some days to explore the town, surrounding nature and the historical monuments. The castle and Dybbøl are both important parts of the history of Denmark. The town houses a top restaurant (Hotel Alsik) and several restaurant with a more normal price range. We enjoyed a dinner in the Mongolian restaurant which has many well prepared dishes (buffet), beer and wine to fair prices. Perhaps not Michelin style, but we enjoyed it very much and several dishes were excellent; my wife loved the crispy vegetables, and I loved the barbecued pork ribs with frites and the fried seafood.Guest review byNordjyllandDenmark - 10.0

An extra chair would have been convenient under the table. Breakfast was good, but very busy, at times; not enough plates, bowls, glasses. Personnel were friendly, we enjoyed our stay. There’s a 20 minute drive to Alslinjen ferry terminal for the 50 minute ferry journey to the Isle of Fyn. Egeskov castle there is a must. Note: Floor 1 leads to the walkway across to the car park opposite the hotel. Remember to punch in your license plate and pay before leaving.Guest review byLynneGermany
