Ponte Vecchio

Peruse the shops perched above the River Arno on this pedestrian bridge. Dating back to 972, its history is the stuff of storybooks. Ponte Vecchio’s seen it all from noble feuds to ruinous floods. Once a market where vendors sold meat, the smell of raw flesh tossed in the Arno disgusted the Medici dukes. Today’s retailers are much less carnivorous (they’re jewellers).

You have to buy something from 18-karat gold here☺️! It’s not cheap but gold is tradition in Florence ( and leather). But be prepared that it’s only not crowded in the morning (when only few shops are open though).

Our hotel was adjacent to this attraction so we had a daily view of it. The photo shown by booking.com does not resemble what it looked like in December. The bridge itself is wall to wall jewellery shops. A good time to visit is before or after they close. The shop fronts change back to the original wooden frontage and makes for a good photo.

Since I visited Florence four times in the 21 years, I know enough where to choose as accomandation. On our last visit, we took an apartment on the southern side of the river, the Bridge was just below our window. The city view is both fantastic and classic. It is the apartment with almost the same view of the location of the "hotel room" where the film "Room with a view" was shot. It is like a dream coming true.

We went in November so I'm not sure if maybe they don't have lights at night during the colder months but we were bummed when we went at night and couldn't really see anything. Go during the day to see the full affect!

This place is simply too overcrowded with street peddlers and tourists. It is hard to take a decent photos. Nevertheless, it is pretty lively and vibrant. Take some time to admire the artworks of the local artists as they nimbly sketch the beautiful views from Ponte Vecchio.

We arrived later than expected and Andrea was excellent, waiting for arrival and explaining everything that we needed to know. The bed was super-comfy, the wi-fi was free. The apartment was spotlessly clean and within a stone’s throw from the Ponte Vecchio. We had an excellent experience!

We loved that the place has a private parking as it is a challenge to park in Florence. There is an elevator in the building, which makes it easy to bring the luggage, as the apartment is on the 4th floor. Everything was very clean. There is a washing machine, an iron and a drying rack. The place is located about 20 min. walk from Ponte Vecchio, and then about 10 more minutes if one wants to go to the historic centre. A supermarket is about 3 minutes away and a cafe about 2 minutes. We would definitely recommend it.

This hotel was excellent value for money! It is several rooms in part of an upper floor of an apartment building, right next to the Arno only a couple of bridges down from the Ponte Vecchio, so the whole historical area is in easy walking distance. Our room ("junior suite with view") had a big window with a lovely view of the river. It was nice and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the room was very quiet at night, especially if you closed the shutters.

Very good location, within a walking distance of all the most interesting places (Uffizi, Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, etc.). Via dei Neri, where the accomodation is located, is one of the best streets in Florence. Broad range of all sort of food choices, ice cream, various breakfast options, pizza and all italian cuisine has to offer are at your fingertips. :) The room was very nice, it was rearengement with the carefully maintenance of the historical climate and details of Florence and Italy.
