Oakland has a high population of homeless people I wasn't aware of. Some areas were better than other but every where you looked was broke down cars with broken widows and tagged on, along with trash everywhere, homeless people and tagging everywhere .
Maybe it's just the area I ended up at, hoping there's more than what I seen.!!!

I think West coast cities are damaged goods at this point.
I think West coast cities are damaged goods at this point.
I will not recommend San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Portland, Seattle nor Vancouver.
These places used to have terrific live music, comedy, food, safe walkable neighborhoods and scenery at prices that were justified but the homelessness, filth, gunfire and in-your-face politics make it less enjoyable.
I would sooner go to a smaller city like Salt Lake, Cleveland, Tacoma, Richmond now. Some of those places have some of the same challenges but the prices will be lower and you can enjoy yourself without as much filth and less political distraction.

The only thing we were able to find to do in the district was Lake Merritt's gardens and lakeside walk.
Shopping was almost non-existent, with most shopping areas full of shops for lease, etc. It seems that if you want to do anything you go on the BART to San Francisco.
We did find a nice cafe - "Kinfolx" 1951 Telegraph Avenue.

The accommodations, my bed and mattress and how quiet my room was from any interior noise was outstanding. The staff at the front desk was very helpful, polite and accommodating. I did not like the smell of marijuana the moment I entered and excited the hotel and in the elevator. Also, only one elevator worked for the 3 nights that I stayed at the hotel. Lastly, when I set up a wake up call for a specific time before I went to bed, I finally received a call more than a half hour after my request. The price that I paid for each night was truly exceptional thanks to Booking.com. I would definitely come back and stay at this hotel if the price per night was the same.
Location is right downtown on the edge of old oakland in a nice, clean, safe-seeming area within easy walking distance to all sorts of restaurants, parks, BART, etc. Building is old and has some character--in a nice way. The free continental breakfast had a fair assortment of offerings and was nicely presented. Though the hotel seemed very quiet otherwise, a friendly open-mike night event we stumbled on adjacent to the lobby proved a memorable and charming surprise. Staff who we spoke to were kind and helpful.
For business travelers, this hotel has easy access from airport and free shuttle service to and from airport for hotel guests.Their restaurant on-site for breakfast or dinner makes it easy so no need to leave if you don't want to. Restaurant was good but be prepared for dinner prices $25-$40pp on average. The bed and room overall was comfortable and efficient for short trip. Pool has limited hours so depending on your meetings and flights, this may not be an option.
The rooms are extremely clean through out!! The property is very well maintained and clean! The owners and the manager are very attentive to the needs of its customers and Secuirty is very good ( They take it seriously) I’ve stayed in many hotels in the area over the years and the Continental Hotel is by far the best hotel I’ve stayed at! Plenty of good food in the area.
I never made it to the property.
It was advertised as having an Airport shuttle & (after a 19 hour journey) was told (took almost 20 minutes to answer the phone) “ the shuttle only goes to Oakland Airpirt NOT San Francisco.
Then told me it would be $160 round trip for a taxi which was more than the cost of the room….
This is a very modern, stylish and clean hotel. Our room was very, very clean, comfortable and quiet (including AC system, neighbors and outside noise). It's not the cheapest option out there, but you get a lot for the price. We'll definitely stay there again.
Breakfast was very good. 24 hour coffee/hot chocolate in lobby. Hotel and grounds very clean. Good indoor pool and hot tub. Good staff. The area outside the property very dirty. Streets were full of litter. Short distance from airport and Oakland Collesium.
The location is very ideal for people wanting to spend time in the downtown area. We only just needed the hotel for a night because we were passing through. Parking was affordable (only $10 a night) & it is a pet friendly hotel which is always a plus.
The service at this hotel was outstanding- thanks to the lady working at the front desk September 9th, around 7pm! 10/10
Skittle to the airport helped us so much that we can’t even describe it! We got amazing help and a great room in to tower.
The hotel is very new and well kept, which is nice, no stained carpets yet.
The staff is very friendly too.
Location is close to metro to San Francisco or to the airports.
The room and bed were very comfortable as well.
The hotel was very cool and modern. The room was small but had everything you need for a short stay, and it was clean and comfortable. Staff and valet were kind and helpful, conveniently located for downtown Oakland.
The staff were very nice and helpful, the lounge area and bar were great for hanging out with our friends, free coffee, location to the Fox Theater, clean rooms, the security of the hotel
The staff was great, and the hotel was super nice and well-located. Close to the business area in Oakland, transportation, and nice places to eat. I highly recommend it.
Nice hotel, great service! The bed are so comfortable I had a wonderful rest. Everything was clean and no noise. Very close to the airport and they have a free shuttle.
Everything was great. The room service and the front desk was excellent. For anyone who is in the Oakland area this is where u should stay. Also the best prices
