I booked the 2 day/1 night jungle trek with them as well. I actually think that is the only way you can stay at their guesthouse, so they ensure that their trekking clients have accommodation. Communication with the manager, Dedycool was faultless, from the time i made my initial inquiry to when the driver picked me up at the airport. The room was spotless, the bed and pillows were some of the most comfortable I've had in 5 months of travel, and the AC did the job. The staff could not have been more welcoming, both upon arrival and every time I came for a meal or returned from an outing. The location outside of the village ensured a peaceful nights sleep. I enjoyed the 30 minute walk to the center, allowing me to see people going about their daily lives. The jungle trek was phenomenal in every way. Both guides, Edwin and Janet, were professional and got excited when we saw orangutans (we saw 7). The food both at the guesthouse and on the trek was very tasty. The trekking was challenging but not overly so. It was fun scrambling up hillsides using vines and roots as foot and hand holds. The camping was much more comfortable than I expected. The camping mats were thick, and the lightweight sleeping bag was just right for the temperature. The rafting back to the village was super fun and a great way to end the 2 days in the jungle. I'm very pleased with my decision to book through Sumatra Orangutans Treks.

At Magpie homestay & jungle trekking especially for guest trekking with us, the family-friendly restaurant is open for dinner, lunch and high tea and specialises in Indonesian cuisine. What a wonderful time we had at Magpie Homestay! The bungalow is spacious, clean and had everything we needed, the garden is an amazing green oasis. My daughter loved feeding the fish every morning. Asniar is a fantastic host who took care of all our needs. The trekking with Nangnang, Nasir and Putra was definitive the highlight of our stay. They made sure we had the best time and spoilt us with amazing food. But we also loved visiting the village and talking to the friendly families at the canal, the bat cave (my daughter felt like a little explorer), the village tour, the eco print workshop with Sarah, visiting the Project Wings and having pizza at the Pizza ship - all of these activities are highly recommended. But most of all, we loved getting to know and speaking to the extremely friendly people of the Homestay and of Bukit Lawang. Thank you so much to Asniar, Nangnang, Nasir and Putra for everything! We will be back one day!
