New, clean, and beautifully appointed rooms. Onsen and lounge on the top level with unlimited popsicles were superb. The tatami mats throughout and only socked feet allowed in the entire hotel added to the experience. Car park next door was convenient. Right next to busy streets full of restaurants.

Very remote from where the tourists are - I had a car so it was easy to access and easy to drive my big luggage up the hill. Ryokan was very spacious and had all the amenities needed (toiletries, hakata, slippers, extra bedding if needed), and the private onsen was perfect for a dip. Cleanliness was up to standards. Service from the staff was great. I had both dinner kaiseki and breakfast in the main building (only a short 1-2 min walk from my ryokan with private onsen) and it was delicious!

The location was perfect for me, 10 minutes walking from the train / bus station and on top of a light hill, so the view from our room was incredibly nice. (This also means that if you are going on foot you have to walk uphill, no big deal for us, but if you have heavy luggage it could be difficult). Both dinner and breakfast were japanese-style, but not too traditional on both taste and texture (I say this as a plus, because my partner is not keen on super traditional Japanese cooking and still managed to eat most of his breakfast). We were also offered non-meat options beforehand, which is great! The building is a mixture of western and japanese styles, so for example the common room has high tables and chairs and a parquet, while the rooms have tatami. Everything was lovely, the common area had a beautiful terrace with a view, our room had a small balcony with outside seats and a private onsen bathtub. The owner is a very nice man and we chatted during dinner. We speak good enough Japanese, so language wasn't a problem, but the owner also speaks good enough English and is very helpful. We had free access to coffee, tea and water from the common room and two complimentary water bottles in the room.

Absolutely amazing onsen. A definite top 5 for me. We got the room with a private one and it was simply so amazing to have that within seconds of your room. Also it felt like the water in the private in room onsens had much more minerals than the large one but the large one is well worth a stay too as it feels so free to be the only one there and gazing upon the mountains as you bathe.

The location and the view was spectacular. The owner/s (?) were super friendly! I did not expect such a beautiful, clean, gorgeous room and great breakfast with an excellent view over the lake for such a small price. ありがとうございます♪

Huge room with separate areas for washing (with twin sinks!), living-room (wooden flooring) and sleeping quarters (tatami flooring). Balcony and onsen pool has a nice forest view. In-room onsen pool is large enough for 2 persons as well. Its nice to wake up to bird-calls than traffic-noise. The host was extremely inviting and friendly despite speaking little English. The room was already warmed up, futons laid out and the in-room onsen water also likewise warm upon our arrival. Very impressive and unexpected service. The area is not inside Yufuin town center but close enough via a short drive by car. Hence you get nature surroundings without the hustle and bustle but close enough to Yufuin for easy daytrip of shopping / sightseeing. The room has a small fridge, microwave, air purifier, reverse-cycle air conditioning and a kerosene heater. Alot of amenities provided. Provided WiFi was also stable and fast. Highly recommended accommodation for couples given its wonderful service, friendly attentive host, natural surroundings and close enough to town center for daytime sightseeing.

SEKIYA RESORT Terrace Midoubaru is located a 15-minute drive from JR Beppu Station and boasts guestrooms with a semi open-air bath. Guests can soak in the hot spring bath. It was beautiful, had a great overlook of the city. Nice, relaxing onsen in our own private bathroom, perfect few days to relax after 2 weeks of running around Japan.
