A really great experience in general - I stayed in one of the suites and could not have asked for a more relaxing and peaceful place to stay, only a short walk from Okunoin Cemetary and an easy walk to the rest of town. Very close to the bus stop from Koyasan Station. Staff were always helpful and the meals were unbelievably delicious and satisfying, even though I needed to ask for a soy-free modification. The best food I ate during my stay!

高野山 宿坊 龍泉院 -Koyasan Shukubo Ryusenin- se nachází v destinaci Kojasan a nabízí pokoje s výhledem do zahrady. Jen 38 km odtud je Kishi Station. It was a true temple stay and quite traditional so a great experience to remember. The rooms were quite spacious and comfortable including cushions and low table to sit at as well as comfy lounge chairs and coffee table for sitting options. When we went to dinner the monks came in and prepared the futons for the night and when we went to breakfast they came in and packed up bedding to return room to day configuration. The meals were beautiful vegetarian cuisine, nutritious and beautifully presented in private dining rooms, both dinner and breakfast. We went to the early morning prayer ceremony which was a lovely experience. Just 6 or 7 couples where we listened to chanting and the monks prayed for the wellbeing of the world.

This hotel is run by the kindest couple, and I’m still thinking about how good dinner and breakfast were. Some of the best meals of my trip! You can also order lunch for the trail. The onsen was wonderful after a long day hiking. Room was on the 3rd floor and very quiet, it was compact and simple, very clean, with everything you might need, including yukatas for dinner and towels for the onsen. Shared toilets and sinks in the hall were never busy; there are two communal showers inside the onsen. I asked about laundry and they took mine and washed it for me within a few hours! The bus stop to Shingu or Hongu was a one-minute walk from the hotel. Yunomine Onsen was such a unique town, I feel lucky to have stayed here and enjoyed such great hospitality!

Minshuku Sumiya se nachází na výhodném místě ve čtvrti Kawayu Onsen v destinaci Tanabe. Great place to stay if you’re hiking or traveling around the area. The host was super friendly, the and the room and sheets were clean. We also dug our own onsen in the river just outside - but there’s also a public outdoor onsen by the river as well as an indoor one in the minshuku. I also learned that “Minshuku” refers to a type of traditional, family-run guesthouse or lodging. Staying at a minshuku typically involves a more personal and homely experience, with the hosts often preparing homemade meals (usually Japanese-style), and the atmosphere is usually casual and friendly - I think it was all those things.

Located in Koyasan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 高野山 宿坊 常喜院 -Koyasan Shukubo Jokiin- offers free private parking. All rooms include a flat-screen TV. The location is perfect. Right near the bus stop. Breakfast is Japanese vegetarian style, perfect if you are vegetarian.
