Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NorwayHow do we describe the magic of this place? It’s almost impossible! We stayed at Muke Village Guesthouse for three nights and wished we could have stayed for a month—that’s how much we loved it. Our 8-year-old couldn’t get enough of sitting around the fire, playing football with the local kids, and exploring the village. What a fantastic community! We travel extensively, and this experience stands out as one of the very best we’ve ever had. Muke Guesthouse isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a full experience for life. The breakfast is fantastic and absolutely worth it, and the dinners are just as delicious. We hadn’t planned to eat dinner at Muke, but we ended up having it every night because we didn’t want to waste a moment away from the village. They also arranged an excellent taxi driver for us at a reasonable price, which made getting around easy. We will never forget our time here, and we will surely be back!

ColombiaA bit close to the highway for me.
This is exactly what I wanted to experience when I decided to come to Africa. I was looking for accommodation close to the Victoria Falls and I stumbled upon Muke Village Guest House. I was initially a bit nervous because it was my first time in Africa and I was travelling alone, however Alex’s warmth and attention to detail gave me the confidence to book. This experience and being with Alex’s family and community for 3 nights has changed my life. Seeing the kids and the school which is right next to the guest house is nothing short of wonderful. I can honestly say that I went to Zambia to see the Victoria Falls but staying here was the highlight of my trip. Alex, his family and community have a big heart and are so welcoming. I feel like I got the authentic experience. Alex took me to and showed me around the local market which was incredible and learnt a lot about local traditions. I got to speak to the locals, ask them about what they do and be immersed in the day to day way of life. In regard to the guest house, I loved how clean it was, how hospitable Alex and Irene were, being with the kids and seeing the stars at night! Thank you Alex! I will be back.

FinlandIf you go there at winter time, make sure you have some warm clothes for the evening and night.
Very authentic stay. You truly are staying in the Village, not just in a touristic place. We loved it. ❤️Very nice and friendly staff. Alex is amazing! 😊 You will get change to visit the school that is just next door and if you want you can do some volyntary work or start sponsoring a child in need. I got never asked to do so, I wanted to start doing that. It was such an eye opening experience. I could recomment this to everyone. It is not a fancy place but something so unique and special.

FinlandWhen we arrived we were welcomed by the school children who where playing at the football field and started chasing the car that Alex (our host) sent for us. Getting to know the traditional houses, that are nicely divided by 'pencil cactus' trees that also create the roads inside the village. Having the chance to try the traditional food, and even more learning how to prepare it with them. Also, to know the school, the teachers and especially the kids, mostly by getting to play football, tic-tac-toe, flying kites with the kids, and if you are really lucky they will teach you a couple of hand games. Communication with Alex was easy and he was very organized and flexible with arranging transport and activities, even with a short notice. We did the game drive, canoeing in the Zambezi river and village tour. All were great!!

Germany-
Me (🇩🇪) and my friend (🇳🇱) had an amazing stay at Muke village.😊 Alex really put in a lot of effort for us to feel comfortable. We really like and admire the project that they set up for the kids for them to be able to have education from a young age, and were happy to be able to support it with our stay. I think offering this kind of opportunity for visitors to get an authentic insight into the life in the village creates a unique and valuable space for cultural exchange. We were very happy with everything: the beds were comfortable, the shower was nice, the food was super tasty, the kids are super cute, taking part in on class at school was very fun, we did a super nice canoeing tour on the Zambezi and had a lot of nice talks with Alex. Big recommendation to make a stay at Muke Village part of your experience in Zambia!🇿🇲

United StatesFirst and foremost, if you one of those whiny travelers who want to get a Four Seasons experience, but don't have money to pay for it and will be complaining all the way and trying to apply for a refund.. this experience is simply not for you. This is a pure village living meaning that most of the time you won't have hot water etc. But it is about kindness, merging with local communities and having a sheer pleasure of pure living. The host and the local people are very nice, and will make your stay unforgettable.
I liked everything. That was the experience that I was looking for.

GreeceDon’t consider it just as a guest house but as an experience. Staying at Muke village is the best way to get a taste of how the locals live, play with the kids, do an unforgettable cruise on the river, learn about the school and the rest of the projects taking place. Recommend 100%.

FranceWe were really happy of the quality of the lodge. It is very clean and nicely furnished. We traveled in October and the Temperature was perfect to sleep. It is a beautiful cultural experience that allows you to see a village from the inside and to understand the challenges and the reality of living in Zambia. It is the opportunity for you to enjoy some typical and delicious food and more importantly to learn how to cook it. You can also enjoy a sunset from an authentic Zambian boat 🛶. Alex is a wonderful host that is involved and always ready to help you during your trip (booking of taxi, pick up, book activities, market tour, etc.) It is the opportunity to get involved in a unique humanitarian experience and make good action for the school and help the village.

GermanyThat accomodation is very special. You live in a small village at Alex place, next to the school he builded. And now he will built a new building for the kids. It’s a really kind and friendly place. We really enjoyed staying here and meeting the kids. The room itself is nice for just a village, we had a bathroom with running water and also warm water. 😊

South AfricaExperiencing the village life was a bonus. In our room i didn't expect running water as i thought they still struggle with water. We did self catering. Dinner time we ate together with the host family traditional food. We had a lovely stay. The guest house is next to main road so you wont get lost.

Austria-
What a great stay. We unfortunately only had two nights here, but were immediately impressed by the warmth and hospitality of the Muke Village residents. Alex was an incredibly friendly, kind and ambitious host who gave us an insight into Zambian life. There is a school next to the guest house and we were even allowed to attend lessons and spend time with the children. We will definitely return - probably even as volunteers - as we felt very comfortable and gained an authentic insight into Zambian culture.

I arrived in Muke village looking for a quiet place to stay far away from the touristic Livingstone town. I didn't expect to find there the best experience of my trip in Africa. I was the third guest since the house is new and they just started to host people in this authentic village house made with wood and clay. The bed are very comfortable, the bathroom and shower are clean and functional. It was so nice to sleep in this peaceful village near the Zambezi river that I decided to extend my stay to one week and I had many reasons to do so! This is not just a guest house, this is part of a project started 4 years ago by Alex when he decided to build a school in Muke Village. I met him when I arrived and he explained me how all the profits of the guest house go to the school, the teachers and the kids. The decision to build a school was made because the nearest school was 5 km away and the kids had to cover a busy dangerous road and sometimes even face the elephants that crowd the surroundings of the village. Starting with 10 kids now the school has 75 students and needs every year more support. I decided then to help as I could doing some volunteering and I extended my stay! So I really recommend to anyone who pass by Livingstone to spend some time in this place because for me it was the most authentic experience of my trip in Africa and I met very nice people in this place who work everyday to give a better future to the children of the village. Thanks to Alex and his family for hosting me!

United KingdomWe loved everything about our stay.
The accommodation is a traditional village clay and thatch guest house. The beds are very comfortable with mosquito nets and it was nice to have an ensuite shower room. The village is very friendly and safe and has a small but well stocked shop. A Village tour including volunteering in the village school, Nshima cooking lesson and a Zambezi sunset canoe rides can be booked directly with Alex (I highly recommend these). It’s nice to know the money raised is going to support the village school. We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely return. Thank you to Alex, his family and friends for making us feel so welcome.

GermanyThat I can't come back in some time. But I hope, I will someday, to see all the progress with the school, the guest house and the village.
I am so happy, I chose to come here! I was the first of hopefully many guests. Alex is a fantastic host, who really cares about his guests and projects. If you want to see some real Africa, apart from the tourism route of Vic Falls/Livingstone, you should come. And your not only getting a good deal for a stay, you also support the school, Alex has founded. You can join clases, see how the teachers work, take a village tour or canu-ride in the sunset. The beds are nice and comfy, the bathrooms are clean and work fantastic. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. Otherwise, this is a place to relax from travelling. There is a huge camping area, if you come by care. I am a German solo female backpacker, I travelled a lot and I'd like to support this place, it meets all the requirements for a great hostel! Alex also takes care of the entire transport, all you have to do, is reach out. Have a great time there! Thank you, Alex, for hosting me, I loved it.
