Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Beautiful location - especially the river. Hippos visiting my tent at night and lots of elephants roaming around freely. Loved the tent.

South AfricaA few more options for dinner On one of the days, we needed to leave early (7am) for a tour. Breakfast was not ready at that time (continental section was not laid out). We ordered our english breakfast but came 6.50 which means we had to rush to eat and didnt have time to finish our tea/coffee (we were there at 6.30 yet were told that breakfast is served from 6am). We also mentioned that we have a pickup at 7am.
Breakfast and Dinner was good.

ZambiaFood served in the evening was mediocre. The generator is far too close to some of the tents, I did not get much sleep my first night there. The subsequent nights it ran for a shorter time depending on load shedding.
Maramba serves an excellent breakfast. Beds were comfortable and the bed linen was good.

IrelandThe only thing that would be improved was the pool could have looked a bit cleaner. Was a bit scummy.
I wasn't expecting much but this place was FANTASTIC and great value for money. Travelling with my son and girlfriend it was laid back and had a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were SUPER helpful and booked a lot of tours for us. The rooms were great and the beds super comfy. Like everywhere else in Zambia there are power shortages but well covered with generator (rather noisy) but unavoidable. I asked to be moved away and Cliff the night manager was very accommodating. Thank you. Food was OK (not amazing) but very adequate. We had a super tour guide, Evans for the falls. Incredible. All the staff were wonderful.

IndiaBreakfast is a bit limited. A few more vegetarian option would be nice. The plug points made charging phones tricky having a few adapters and chargers would be great. The airport pick up they organised was very expensive.
The location on the Maramba River, the fact that they have a boat and jetty to set sail to see the Zambezi. Very friendly and nice staff. Great experience overall.

GermanyThe breakfast was not great; I would have loved some fresh fruit and fresh coffee (vs the instant coffee on offer). Also, be warned that staying in a safari tent with an outdoor shower means being swarmed by mosquitos in the shower, and potentially unwelcome scorpion visitors inside the tent. Had I known this, I would have booked a room with an indoor shower and firms walls that might have better prevented scorpion incursions.
The location was wonderful and sitting on the deck in the pool/bar area a great place to chill and take in nature views. Loved that the place was fully immersed in nature with monkeys passing through, etc, though I was sad to miss the elephants that are there during other seasons. At night sitting on the bar deck looking over the river we were able to catch some hippos and a crocodile swimming past the lodge. Magic! The staff were also super friendly and helpful. Also appreciated that it was centrally located between the Falls and Livingstone town.

BelgiumBreakfast was very limited I went in low season and price was still very high for a standard tent. I think a lower price would have been better and a more extended breakfast would be better. But for sure a nice property. Please be aware that Livingstone town is only reachable via Taxi and it's not near the lodge.
Maramba river Lodge is a nice property and has different type of tents/bungalows. I had a tent, the tent was frorseen with all necessary comfort. It's basic but nicely done, the outside shower was great :). The tent was very clean. The restaurant has a extensive card. Personal was friendly.

United StatesA conference center is under construction so part of the grounds in the middle of the property will be unsightly until it is complete, but that's progress. Our room did not have a mosquito net which I think should be standard in all rooms, even the new ones as the mosquitos were prevalent in October/November when we visited.
The Maramba River Lodge is beautifully situated on the peaceful Maramba River, which feeds into the mighty Zambezi. While we didn't see any elephants or hippos as we'd hoped, this was probably a good thing as there are guards assigned to protect guests who may come upon a wild animal on the grounds of the lodge! We stayed at the Lodge to wind down after our safari getaway and hiking the falls and it was a great place to wind down before flying out. The restaurant is very good for all meals and the staff very friendly and attentive. The swimming pool was wonderful for an afternoon cool off.

South AfricaTwo things, the first and extremely disappointing one being: On our last day of 8 at Maramba Lodge, we had a couple of hours to spare before our flight and wanted to go fishing again. 3rd trip with the Maramba outfit. The front desk personnel asked the manager if we could take half a trip for half the price. We were told we could go but to pay FULL price. This activity is a very expensive one. The boats were not in use that morning AND the staff member who took us on the 3 previous trips was keen to take us again. But because of someone considering PROFIT MORE IMPORTANT THAN CLIENT RELATIONS, we left rather disappointed in spite of all the other positive experiences. So shorted sighted! The second, small but also short sighted, was that there were big black refuse bins outside the safari chalets that guests and housekeepers put rubbish in. BUT these were not baboon or monkey proof. SO… as you would expect, each day these bins were visited by these clever animals and again, as one would expect, rubbish would be all over the place after their quest. Sometimes the rubbish would land beyond the electric fence and cause me grief and frustration as I could not retrieve the rubbish from there. A problem that could be easily resolved.
Maramba Lodge was truly lovely; a comfortable haven between all the activities. We had everything we needed from games to pool to a very able and friendly staff.

BotswanaThe open outside shower in the tent was infested with mosquitoes resulting in the room also being infested, that is why we had to change rooms. They say the mosquitoes are not malaria carrying type but it was too much!!!
The exchange from one type of room(Landela Tent) to a Chalet, it was smooth.. When booking it was not explicit that the tent had an outside open shower!!! The staff was GREAT! both at the Reception and the Restaurant.

United StatesBreakfast options and fresh coffee, instead of instant coffee. Honestly, just having fresh drip coffee would have been amazing. There is nothing better than this first thing in the morning to start your day. The instant stuff just isn't the same. Unfortunately we had to order it from the bar.
The location was beautiful and quaint. We really enjoyed the water, hippo, and elephant views. The staff was very kind and helpful.
