How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Verified reviewThe dinners at the main restaurant upstairs were poor. The breakfast was EXCELLENT, and the Bar Restaurant for snacks, lunch and dinner down by the river was very good.
The property is under a much needed refresh and upgrade. I am sure it will be stunning again when the upgrades are completed, but it did result in some construction noise during the day from morning to afternoon, so not much serenity on the mighty Zambezi.

Verified reviewIt was very laid-back. It wasn’t very busy when we stayed (June 2024). It was the last night of an 18 day holiday and was a great way to finish our trip. We did the sunset cruise in the Lady Livingstone which was great and very relaxing. Breakfast had everything you might want.
A few mosquitoes in the evening - but you chose a hotel next to a river so is to be expected. The net around the bed was perfect.

Verified reviewThe staff were very pleasant. The food was great. The cruise was amazing well worth to do ,we enjoyed the views, the staff on board and the food was delicious. My kids enjoyed the ice cream bar. The bedding was very comfortable and the little sweet on our bed each night was a nice touch. The Spa couple treatment was excellent ,the ladies know what they are doing. The breakfast selection was nice. The buffet was very nice with the live music was great.
We are a family of 4 with 2 daughters. Their family room was currently under renovation, and we had to book 2 separate rooms. Our first day on arrival we had lunch to the sound of renovation at the restaurant which was not pleasant.Our first night was not a good experience because our under aged daughters bedroom door could not lock. Our bedroom shutter doors going onto the balcony were making noises not from wind, which made sleep unpleasant. We did notify them on both matters. The door lock was sorted. We had to put pillows by the door each night to prevent the noise from the balcony stacker doors. On the first night, we bathed, and given that this room of ours was recently renovated, the bath did not have an overflow, so there was water everywhere. Even so ,the shower drain does not drain properly, so the water eventually layed everywhere . I would suggest there be someone to check into a solution in that regard. We feel for the money we spent on this accommodation we had high expectations given we paid the top rate from any other accommodation we have ever stayed. The last supper we had, we received a very ,very uncooked steak. We ordered room service for a cappuccino each, and it was poorly made . Given the high asking price for accommodation, there needs to be consistency in the kitchen of great standard.

Verified reviewThe hotel has an amazing view of the river, nice setting to watch the sunset. The boat Lady livingstone is also quite nice. The employees are nice. The location is 5 minutes away from the Victoria falls.
The food could be better. The waiting time at the restaurant a bit long. The price of the transfer from the airport is expensive.

Verified reviewThe customer service we received from every staff member was exceptional—from the front desk to housekeeping, and even the maintenance team. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.
There was some inconsistency in communication via the Booking.com app. I had to call a few hours before our arrival to confirm whether transport had been arranged as requested. I had also submitted a request through the app for the lodge to debit my account prior to arrival, but unfortunately, I did not receive a response.
