Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIf anything, Wifi connection was not super strong from the private room where I stayed. In the common areas the connection is pretty solid, but in the room it was a little bit weak. This really didn't affect my stay, but I can't think of anything else they could've done better.
I really liked my stay here. First, the room is big and the bed is huuuuge (it's AT LEAST a king). We did have a shared bathroom (which we signed up for and knew ahead of time!), but in general the room amenities were amazing -- I went with a group of friends but will definitely come back again with my partner. Second, the hostel offers great tours for great prices (not only half day safaris, but also sunset safaris, trips to Esswatini, trips to Mozambique, pick-up rides from the border with Moz, etc.) -- by staying here, you're also getting a great value-for-money travel agency (which makes planning much easier). I recommend reaching out to them when you book. Third, the hostel really has animals! Marloth Park is a fenced neighborhood -- so you do get Kudus, Zebras, and boars walking around the backyard, close to a small pond where they can drink water (the picture on Booking.com is not an exaggeration: you see these animals every day and from VERY VERY close -- as close as you want). I really felt the safari started by staying at Krueger Park Hostel. Fourth, the ambience was on point: it strikes the perfect balance between quietness and socializing. I felt the room areas were quiet -- and the common areas were also pretty quiet at night. Because people go on safari rides as early as 5 AM, social mingling usually starts dying out around 21. But don't get me wrong: this doesn't mean people aren't social. In fact, Mayra (who helped us immensely) and the rest of the hostel crew always does some "funny social activity" in early evenings -- when we were there, they did a trivia night and, in the other night, a barbecue in a place near the hostel with a great view to the river and herds of elephants. The night we left, they did karaoke. I usually travel to see _places_, but at Krueger Park Hostel, I really felt _people_ were a great asset too! Ohh and fifth: it's a DBB: dinner, bed and breakfast!

It’s also a great place to meet people and make new friends. The Joburg shuttle stops right at the door, and animals are always walking by. Loved every moment!

IrelandAmazing stay at Kruger Park Hostel. Amazing staff, spotlessly clean and a fantastic location in Marloth Park. Fantastic safari, Robert is an amazing guide, well educated and knowledgeable on the area, wildlife, flora and fauna. Also highly enjoyed the panorama Route tour. Very relaxed stay nothing was to much trouble for the hosts they even collected and dropped us back to the airport. We hope to return to the Kruger Park Hostel soon!

AustraliaThe bathroom flooded when having a shower due to no shower screen and large shower head
It was a perfect oasis in the bush amongst the animals with a homely feel. Everyone was super welcoming and friendly. The park game drives were fantastic and the guide Robert was super informative, giving us lots of time to view animals and take photos. The staff even helped organise a massage at the hostel with a local masseuse! We would definitely stay here again!

BrazilNothing bad to add, everything went perfectly well.
Out of all the hostels I’ve stayed in around the world, Kruger Park Hostel is by far the number one when it comes to being a true authentic hostel — one that genuinely cares about making you feel at home. It’s more than just a place to sleep; it feels like a real community. From day one, I felt like I was surrounded by long-time friends. Connections happen naturally, the spaces encourage interaction, and there’s a welcoming energy in every detail. For fellow Brazilians thinking of visiting: don’t doubt for a second — this is your best value-for-money option. The daily rate includes half-board (great breakfast and dinner), you don’t have to worry about dishes, and whether you stay in a shared room or a private one like I did, everything is comfortable and cozy. Also they have nice tours either good prices that allows you to meet all Kruger area on an affordable way. The staff is also 10/10 — from Mayra (a Brazilian who shares tons of helpful tips in Portuguese) to Rene, Trudy, Lebo, Robert, Marion and so many others who make this place so special. I truly felt welcomed.

GermanyLocation is hard to find, road go get there not the easiest. Our room (not dorm but a room for 2 people only) was very nice and in the middle of the park though one wall of the bedroom was made of see-through glass without curtains - which was great to feel the nature around us but made me feel quite uncomfortable as, despite nothing has happened, I didn't feel full privacy.
Located in the middle of the forest. Friendly staff who really want to build a community among the guests. Spotless clean. Very nicely decorated. Well organised. We really appreciated the opportunity to rent bikes.

BrazilNothing. Everything was great!
The place is perfectly located, Marloth is very safe and close to Crocodile bridge gate. The room, shower, food, game drives were all very personalized for us. Common areas were so cool, even some animals came visit. Mayra and Rene are great hosts. They run the hostel and at the same time hang out with us. If you are lucky they even do the tours with you. I would definitely recommend!

I've stayed in lots of hostels before but this stands out as being one of my favourites for sure. Staff are so welcoming and friendly, they make a real effort to make sure you have what you need during your stay and make you feel like part of their family! The dinner was delicious and everywhere was super clean. The shower in the dorm was lovely too :) The location is incredible. You are in and amongst so much wildlife, animals coming to the pool was an absolute highlight. Martin was a wonderful guy, so much energy and enthusiasm on the game drive! I highly recommend doing the game drive and the night drive, it is so worth it. Thank you for a great stay, I really hope to be back one day!

United KingdomA little slice of bush heaven tucked near the Kruger Park. The staff and volunteers were extremely kind and attentive and quickly make you feel part of the hostel community. Within a few hours of arriving we had visitors by the pool (zebras!). The hostel was extremely clean and well decorated. The pool was clean and great for when you need to cool down. There were different spaces to mingle with others or have some quiet time/do work if you wish. The tours were awesome - despite it being a scorcher of a day we saw a plethora of wildlife! The hostel doesn’t host too many guests, which creates an intimate feel and makes it easier to get to know everyone. By the end of the trip, you will feel like part of the hostel family. I hope to visit again and will recommend to friends! 🌻

The family who runs the hostel will definitely go out of their way to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. The hostel is chill, but social, it organizes activities on chill days, afternoon BBQs, game drives to Kruger, transfer to night safaris, etc. Everything was really easy. I recommend staying at least 3 nights to be able to do all activities.
