Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaShower pressure was very weak, no plug by the bedside that we could see. A few cosmetic issues but nothing major
Staff were lovely, so friendly and helpful at check in and check out. Great location, close to a supermarket, several restaurant options and walking distance to key attractions. We booked the apartment which was very spacious and had its own cooking facilities and bathroom.

United StatesIt was sooo cold inside, most residents were as dressed with jackets and hats inside as we would be for outside. While the main areas were constantly cleaned, there was a lot of dust on the windowsills. Sheets and towels were pretty old and well worn. It's in an area of town between the old city and the docks, which generally didn't feel very safe - especially at night.
The building is quite beautiful, not far from the main old city square. Plenty of services and amenities within a 4-block walk.

NetherlandsFurniture is a bit rustique and could do with a bit more deep cleaning.
Excellent location. This hostel is an city manor which has advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side super high ceilings and entrance to a lovely balcony. On the downside, squeaking, antiquated furniture and doesn't score high in terms of privacy. The staff are professional

GermanyNo sign outside the house. Hard to spot it. Fridges could be cleaner.
Stayed for one night before taking the ferry to Buenos Aires. Just perfect location for that. Had a room with a tiny balcony looking onto the street. The street creates some noise, however tolerable for a big city.

BelgiumUnfortunately my bedroom faced the street and the loud noise level was too high. The shared toilets and bathrooms were a little bit too open, therefore very little privacy exists for either. Still, when traveling alone, I would gladly stay there again.
There was no breakfast nor other amenities included in the price. However, it was a low price and the informal comfort of the whole common areas of the building were superb.

GermanyThe walls are quite thin. You hear most things going on in the hall or other rooms. Depends on individual needs if that's really a bother though.
The people that worked there were all very nice and helpful. The building itself is just really cool with very high ceilings. It feels very reagal but at the same time cozy. You can use the washing machines for free and everything is very clean and tidy!

Czech RepublicThe street outside hostel is gathering spot for street people and as such feels rather uninviting and you as a guest of the hostel need to tolerate their loud behavior mostly int the evenings and nights. The room I was given initially had the door lock broken, so the door could not have been closed(was given substitute). The kitchen has a roach problem, witnessed a few of the during my breakfast. Speaking of kitchen, it is located adjacent to men's washroom with non closing door, so anyone in the kitchen can hear the the "business" in the washroom. Yummy....Honestly, in my opinion the hostel for what it offers is overpriced and the all the high rating is probably form the "high" stuff which is part of everyday life in Montevideo.
The hostel is centrally located close to the main square and grocery stores. The staff is friendly and can communicate in English.

SwedenThe listing said that there would be aircon, but when we arrived there was no such thing. Hopefully they’ve changed it now. We had a lot of issues here, our door did not lock, part of the ceiling in the men’s shower fell down while my parter were in the shower, etc. on of the employees got so drunk on day that we slept in the men’s restroom, vomiting all over the floor.
There was not much to like tbh.

IrelandThe hostel is a pretty, high-ceiling building. There is a nice very clean communal space as well as a roof terrace with a very good view of la Rambla. Upstairs there is a grill as well as washers and dryers. The location is great and the staff are incredibly welcoming. They were happy to speak with me in the little pieces of Spanish I could put together.

UruguayIt ain't a hostel but a residential. There seems to be a lot of people from Brazil there as I didn't hear any Spanish or English. It can be quite loud and noisy, cause the rooms are really old and facing the kitchen. The neighbourhood is quite dodgy as well, specially at night.. Avoid! No es un hostel, es una residencial

United StatesLoud kitchen noise, talking, and music from staff, guests, and neighbors from 14:00 straight through to 23:00. Sound carries everywhere. Had to book a completely different hostel to get some semblance of rest. They made me pay the full stay but told Booking.com that they canceled my reservation, which did not initially allow me to leave a review. Some seriously shady business.
