Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MexicoThe building was very old, didn’t offer breakfast and the coffee places nearby opened late (maybe because winter), still would be nice to have some options
Location is great but Colonia is very small so really everything works there, staff was really nice too

FranceCleaning was so so, could be better. No kitchen !
First communication via booking was a cold but following messages were much warmer, thankfully. Hostel well located by the centre of the town, next to a lot of places to eat. 4 bed female dorm was very big, with private bathroom. Private locked by the bed. They have a pool but it was too cool to enjoy it. Small terrace by the dorm, maybe there is more. Some books available to read. Chill vibes! Don't forget to go to see the sunset!

GreeceOnly negative things to say is that a) breakfast wasn't something special to go for it and b) we were short on time and didn't use the kitchen but having a look at it it didn't seem much equipped if you want to cook your own food.
Exceptional choice for your stay in Colonia! The location is great on a beautiful little placa, right in the center with everything in walking distance. The common areas are very spacious, nicely decorated and clean both inside the building and outside (front garden and pool area). The double room was spacious, clean and very comfortable for two people. The hostel was really quite and peaceful when we went (end March). Friendly stuff. We stayed before in Viajero Montevideo but the Colonia one is definitely much better.

ParaguayDepends on the dorm. Some dorms are a big no! Loud music, horrible smell, tiny dorm.
My room was the female room upstairs. I changed rooms a couple of times and I was happy in this room. However, I was in 2 other rooms before, that I really didn't liked. The loud music, the horrible smell in the tiny dorms... your experience depends on the room you have. The female dorm upstairs is deffinitly a 10! Staff 10+! Staff is amazing!

ItalyGreat place to stay! the hostel is beautiful, great facilities and wonderful garden, super clean and good vibes. The staff was super nice and gave me a lot of recommendation to discover Uruguay. The only thing I would improve is a couple of pan/utensilies more in the kitchen, however if you stay in Colonia only one day you don't really need to cook that much.

United StatesWe would have liked borrowing umbrellas when it rained. I would invite the hostel to be mindful of the noise from the kitchen generator and another machine that was quite loud. It was turned off when we asked but we would have liked to avoid asking as it is pretty common sense.
We loved the location right off the main square with many restaurants and walking distance from/to the ferry terminal. We liked the terrace upstairs overlooking the square. We enjoyed our private room with view over the garden. Breakfast was good with plenty of food and we ended up skipping lunch and only eating dinner. We rented bicycles provided by the hostel to bike along the river and that was fun. People working at the hostel were always helpful and made our stay very easy.

PortugalRight after I checked out and was waiting for my taxi, I received a “parting gift” from the men who work at the reception in the shape of a sexual joke which surprised me. When I asked the man who said it to repeat it he refused and then he and the other guy at the reception started giggling to themselves while staring at me. That kinda creeped me out and made me glad to leave already. Unfortunately some men still don’t understand the concept of solo women traveling and they assume (wrongly) that if we do that it means we are interested in something else rather than simply travel.
Location was good as it was right in the old center and close to everything by few minutes walk only. The building was old yet beautiful and plenty of common areas.

GermanyThe staff seemed almost indifferent to our questions and requests. They seemed put out that we might ask for information.
The breakfast was substandard. After suffering through one, the second day, we got breakfast outside, "on the street." The coffee was hardly drinkable, the cereal uncreative, the pastries weak... one of the worst breakfasts I've endured.

GermanyBreakfast is not very diverse and mostly sweet, but times are good (8-11) and it’s not too expensive.
The location of the hostel in a beautiful building in the center of the historic town is perfect. There’s a lot of common areas with patios/gardens and a small rooftop terrace and compared to other hostels it was rather quiet so that you could get a good nights sleep. The staff was very helpful with bus schedules and even tips for my next destination. I would stay there again!
