How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Verified reviewstayed at this hostel in Venice Beach and honestly had a great experience. As a solo female traveler visiting for the first time, I felt completely safe, even though I’d initially been nervous after hearing there were a lot of homeless people in the area—they really kept to themselves. The location is perfect, with everything within walking distance. The sleeping pods were incredibly comfortable, and I slept so well. The people I met were so friendly and welcoming. I truly had a blast, and I’m leaving with a bit of nostalgia for the amazing memories made here. I would definitely stay again.

My time there the age group was 40+. As a 25 year old that wasn’t optimal but it’s more expensive then other places so that probably why.

Verified reviewI liked absolutely everything - the friendly staff, the people who stayed there seemed to have been selected among the best people, the incredibly beautiful location on one of the best beaches where something fun and exciting is always happening. A big bonus is that the staff offers bicycles and longboards that you can use for free.

Verified reviewAbsolutely loved everything about this hostel experience, wish I could have stayed longer! Located perfectly right at the beach and near enough all the Venice attractions/restaurants. I felt warmly welcomed from the first moment I checked in as I got a tour around the house by the friendly staff. Everything was kept tidy and everyone I met was nice and friendly. I felt like it was a great mix of socializing and having the own space to relax. Completely different experience to an usual hostel experience and I loved everything about it.

Verified reviewLawrence was super welcoming. The atmosphere is very relaxed with lots of lovely large open spaces. Not crowded like other hostels, much more like a house share. The beds were very comfortable and the location is amazing! Oh and hazelnut coffee in the morning-delicious. I’ll be back for sure!

Nothing, everything was great. For the amount on guests presents, maybe 2 bikes is a bit short in number? But actually is already a great extra service, so thanks for that. Would be great to be able to leave the suitcase few hours without paying extra 30dollars, but I understand is part of the business :)

I want to begin by sincerely apologizing if your stay was anything less than perfect. Our aim is always to create a warm, welcoming, and memorable experience for every guest. I'd like to take a moment to clarify a few of the concerns raised in your review, and we’ll also be reaching out to you via email to discuss further. Firstly, regarding pod assignments – we do not offer specific pod selections such as “sea-facing,” and this is made clear during the booking process. All pods are uniformly designed to offer comfort and privacy, and while we’re located near the beach, individual pods do not come with ocean views. We’re also sorry to hear about your interaction with one of our staff. While feedback on service is always welcome, we kindly ask that personal attacks are avoided. We aim to foster a respectful environment where both guests and staff feel valued. We welcome people from all walks of life and all countries including South America... we value peoples inner spirit. On the topic of early check-in, late check-out, and luggage storage – we do offer these services as optional add-ons, clearly listed during booking. Luggage lockers are complimentary but designed for carry-on or backpack-sized items, and we’re working on making that even clearer on our platforms. As for the payment concerns – we’ve reviewed our system logs, and our payment system was fully functional at the time. Unfortunately, Diners and Discover cards are not accepted, and the other cards presented were declined by the bank. As stated on our website and confirmation emails, valid card payment is required for check-in and add-on services. While we do our best to assist in these situations, alternative payment methods like links or invoicing aren’t currently part of our setup. It sounds like your experience was impacted by a number of unexpected frustrations, and for that we’re truly sorry. We’ll be reviewing this internally to improve how we communicate these policies and options to future guests. Thank you again for your feedback.
