Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt was a beautiful place but there was no TV in our room. No refrigerator. Very small. We had no choice of pillows. We need flat pillows. All we had were very plump ones which caused neck aches and not a good sleep.

United StatesThe bathroom could use some TLC/upgrades. Also, it’s a historic building, so it is understandable it is not soundproof. But you really hear all of the plumbing activity of the neighboring guests.
Super cool historic property, not in the middle of nowhere, but certainly tucked away. For fans of historic hotels, this is a great stop.

United StatesLightbulb was out in the closet. The advertised pool is a KOA pool without clear path and directions.
The historical information and items throughout the inn make it a very interesting place to visit. Puzzles in the gathering room give visitors an opportunity for a relaxing indoor activity while lawn games provide great outdoor activities.

United StatesThe housekeeping was a big disappointing, in that we had to ask for soap, extra TP, tissues, plus the upkeep on the hotel in general seems a bit behind. It also seems more expensive than warranted. It could also use a lift, with new linens, for example.
This old hotel is interesting, lots of areas for relaxing and reading, and a pleasant place to stay. The staff is very nice, and we enjoyed being there. Our room had a patio, which we liked very much.

United StatesThey have given up on the golf course. Perhaps due to water restrictions?
Beautifully maintained historical hotel. Surprisingly comfortable for its age. Nice gardens and grounds. We had a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant and enjoyed cornhole on the backyard.

United StatesWe were unable to check into our room until around 5:30 because it was not cleaned when we arrived at the normal check in time of 4.
We had an excellent dinner in the restaurant. I had the pork tenderloin special and it was delicious.

United StatesWe usually like to eat at the bar in the restaurant, which was available, but our servers were very average as far as service and asking for our order, etc. Did not display a cordial environment in our opinion. Also, we saw a sign on the way that this was a golf resort. Since the golf is so basic, I don't think the Inn should publicize this as a golf resort.
We stayed in the cottage which was a great room right off of the outdoor dining and they had entertainment that evening.

United StatesThere was no available TV in the room. If we would have known, we wouldn't have went. Will seriously think about alternate arrangements. We need to view the news morning and night. There was no Phone charger outlets/inlets available to charge our phones or iPads.......not a biggie for an overnight stay, but any longer and it would be unacceptable. Not telling us that the TV service was unpaid or out of action was serious dent in our enjoyment, Sorry that's the reality.
Quietness and Old School furniture and carpets. Bathroom water pressure and heat were excellent. Food at restaurant and bar were good.

United StatesThe food was delicious, but portions could be smaller: I ordered a salad with a dinner entree, and it was enough for a meal unto itself. There was no refrigerator in our room, so we couldn't keep what we were unable to finish.
I love the design and decor in the hotel; the dining room has a welcoming feel and the food was delicious. The staff made us feel at home. We especially enjoyed the fireplace in the lounge, and the teatime scones. I love the woodwork on the staircases! The location on the Eel River is appealing and it is a pleasure just to sit in the garden overlooking the river. The proximity to Garberville anad the Avenue of the Giants was just what we hoped for.

United StatesUpgraded our room and got a hard bed and windows that did not open because of the noisy vents outside. There were cobwebs in the windows and behind the TV. When I said something, they cleaned up our room but didn't clean the cobwebs. Hotel was damaged by an earthquake and water leaks and not repaired. Sad. Golf course was not mowed and the greens were dead.
Such a lovely historic hotel that now has an elevator. Dinner wad excellent but pricey. The river view and terraces were lovely.

United StatesMe and my girlfriend went for one night to just get out for a bit for birthday, and we had an AMAZING time here. The bed was so comfortable, the view of the river was great and was so close to walk by; the only thing I would say is there was no TV or fridge in our room, but I’m assuming they offer ones with those things, we just weren’t paying attention lol. Overall an amazing time.
