How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe greatest asset is the view! The balcony overlooks the lake and it was beautiful. Also, the size of the hotel is quaint and from a past era...friendly and accessible. The hotel's location is perfect to access all kinds of restaurants and locations.
The room is a bit outdated and the beach furniture was weathered. The air conditioning is not well-placed since it hits you directly when sleeping.

Verified reviewLocation was everything. Private balcony overlooking Lake Michigan, Private beach with fire pit and chairs. Listened to the waves all night. You pull your vehicle right up to your door. This is NOT a fancy place but comfortable.
Needed a hook on the bathroom door. Would have been nice to have something offered for breakfast, donuts?

It’s a family owned place so it’s nicely appointed albeit some older sad furniture and owner repairing and upkeep.

Verified reviewBEAUTIFUL LOCATION!! Loved being beachside right on Lake Michigan, so pretty. Very quiet, room was clean and bed was very comfortable!
Was quite disappointed that there was no microwave, small coffee maker or hairdryer in the room at the rate we paid. There was no privacy between the balconies, our neighbors could literally stand on the edge of their railing and look right into our room - there needs to be a wall/privacy screen between rooms. One other disappointment was that everyone staying on the ground level overtook all the fire rings and seating each night. And be very aware, someone threw a broken beer bottle in a firepit and then we witnessed someone's child throw it out into the lake, not cool at all!

Older motel that needs updating and a deep cleaning. There was trash on our balcony when we arrived, the shower drain was super slow/clogged, and the beds were worn out.

This place is run down and needs updates. One of the doors in the bedroom was sealed around by ducktape (that was actually funny to look at because it's just so ridiculous), we heard the people next door talking clearly as if they were right in our bedroom. Couch had some pretty big stains. Bedding was old. Maybe if the furniture fabric, bedding and curtains were newer it might make a difference. There must have been one of those scent releasers in one of the outlets cause there was an awful perfumy smell, we couldn't find it. Came home at night and none of the lamps turned on, they were unplugged. A women who met us in Algoma booked one of the other rooms and we walked to her around back to her room at night, the curtains were so old and stained around the edges and had a 5 inch rip on top by the curtain rod. The room was so dismal we took her back to our room and she slept on our couch. After telling the manager later our friend didn't feel safe staying there alone because the window and door was so outdated, and curtains didn't seal, he told me that was funny cause he knew the people staying near her. A person staying alone and not feeling safe because of conditions isn't funny. We didn't have time to discus with the hotel before we left so called when got home. Manager said they fixed a few things not mentioned here and that the boss would call us back, but hasn't. Stayed in many VRBO places which were great and comfortable. This one was not.

Lake didn't smell good they sprayed the room with some kind of oder blocker.

We got there at 9:15pm, there was no staff there. There was a number to call, we did 3 times. Then finally they talked to me through the security camera and said oh we left at 815, there's no one to give you a key go stay somewhere else, so we did.
you have clearly mentioned you didnt stay here then why did you review us, we open 8 am to 10 pm and we have on site manager for 24*7 for any help. we have no idea what you have reviewed here.
