Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe loved the traditional style of the building. Old features had been left, and maintained. The staff were all incredibly helpful and smiley. The breakfast was superb.

OmanIt was a delightful experience that perfectly captured the charm of this historic city. Housed in one of Zanzibar’s old buildings, the hotel exudes a sense of history and romance with its authentic Arabic architecture, antique furniture, and rich fabrics. Located in the heart of Stone Town’s maze-like alleys, the hotel is ideally situated for exploring the vibrant markets, the Darajani Market, and Forodhani Gardens; which is perfect for immersing yourself in the culture, with restaurants and shops right at your doorstep. However, the narrow lanes mean you’ll need to walk about five minutes from the nearest drop-off point, so light pack or arrange a a bajaji (tukutuk) from the last drop off. There are eight rooms, named after coffee varieties like Arabica and Espresso. Our room was clean, and tastefully decorated with a traditional Zanzibari four-poster bed, mosquito net, and antique lamps. The air conditioning was a blessing in the humid climate. The hotel’s coffee-themed atmosphere is warm and inviting, with the ground-floor café serving exceptional coffee. The rooftop terrace is a gem, offering 360-degree views of Stone Town’s rooftops and a serene spot for breakfast. The breakfast itself was a standout—fresh, generous, and paired with delicious Karak (masala chai). The café’s homemade cakes and light meals are also worth trying. The lack of a full restaurant or extensive facilities (it’s more of a B&B) keeps things simple. The staff were the heart of the experience—gracious, professional, and genuinely warm. From the welcoming Juice on arrival to the attentive service at breakfast, they made us feel like family. The early morning beautiful call to prayer from nearby mosques added to the cultural immersion. The hotel isn’t ideal for those with mobility issues due to multiple stairs and uneven floor levels. The absence of an elevator and the historic layout might be challenging.

JordanSometimes felt like the guy who stays up at night to let you in/ out wasn't very pleased with me, but could have just been communication issues. Also, it is impossible for a taxi to take you to the coffee house so you have to be careful if you have a lot of stuff/ book a tour
Breakfast was phenomenal. The staff were delightful and kind. The coffee is so good- I have been a barista in the UK and this place was top notch. My room was very sweet- quaint and clean. Had AC which was a blessing. Cleaned every day and the bed made for me. No security issues whatsoever.

United StatesWe couldn’t get the air conditioner to work on the second night, so the room got hot but it may have been user error. And the overhead fan worked great!
Breakfast on the rooftop was wonderful and felt so exotic.

South AfricaMy only complaint is really out of their control. There was loud construction just across the narrow street until 19:00. Difficult to rest or even enjoy a meal and coffee.
I loved the location, the building, and amenities. The staff were amazing, so kind and helpful. I had to leave early due to a family emergency and the staff could not have been more helpful and sensitive.

CanadaThis is more a problem with booking.com than the property. We thought we had elongated our stay in the same room because the booking picture was the same, but we instead had to switch rooms by surprise.

United StatesTo manage expectations: this is a coffee bar in a historic building with rooms above, no more no less. Rooms are nice and very clean but basic, particularly the bathroom is sufficient but not more. The baristas are the receptionists, pleasantly providing your key and a welcome drink. Good value for money at less than 100 usd per night. I only say these things because the other reviews make it seem as though this is a gem of a luxury boutique hotel, which it is not. It led to a moment of re-setting for me because I was a bit surprised at first by the lack of atmosphere and finishes. If you are looking for a safe, value for money and comfortable room, then excellent choice. If you are looking for something more then you will be surprised.
Clean and spacious rooms above a coffee shop. Antiques in the rooms added character to the historic building. The rooftop is the star of the show, a wonderful place for breakfast and for an afternoon rest away from busy Stone Town. Breakfast was delicious and Leah, the server, is lovely. Bed was comfortable for 1 person, not sure about 2.
