How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewThis hotel is nice and the location is in the heart of Stone Town SO be aware that vehicles CANNOT access the hotel. We were coming from climbing Kilimanjaro so had heavy non-wheeling bags which we had to carry a short distance.

Verified reviewLocation, safety, friendly service. Great food and all the staff very friendly and helpful. Room no 3 was spacious and comfortable. Beautifully and sympathetically styled throughout. It’s very stylish in comparison to many other stone town hotels - But it is expensive also. Perfect for a one night stop before/ after the flight.
Our room was on first floor landing and was a bit noisy as people would need to walk past our room. No sound insulation in these lovely old houses in stone town. So don’t expect total peace and quiet in this location. It’s also very expensive and the restaurant whilst good was pricey by comparison to others.

It is not in a nice area. It is off a dirty street with homeless people. Very very noisy til 2 am. We can hear conversations and noise from street. I would not recommend this hotel.

Signage for the hotel could be better and more prominent. The location is great and very central in Stone Town, but I wouldn’t stay here if traveling as a solo female because waking back at night can be uncomfortable.

Verified reviewFor stone town it was a good location, allthough with big bags it can be difficult from the road. The hotel is nice and has great potential, the food was good, and the staff were lovely. They let us have our room from 8am as we arrived early which was good of them and we appreciated that alot after a long flight. If the power cuts had not of happened I'd of been happy with the stay and the hotel does pretty much match the pictures and you do feel safe when in the hotel.
The power cuts we had, we thought it was the whole area, but it turns out it was just within the hotel. I'm an electrician myself and understand there are issues, but for £150 a night, i shouldn't be told I can't use the air con, especially when it's hot. There was a party at the hotel which is nice but it was mainly locals and the owners again nice to be invited but as we were up at 4am for a safari the noise was a little annoying especially with the power cuts so we couldn't wait in our room. We also paid for breakfast. we did arrive early in the morning, and they said we would have to pay for breakfast that day, which we did. But as we were leaving the next morning at 5 am for a safari, we were told we would be given a packed breakfast, but this didn't happen. These are small negatives but I'm just being honest

Sadly, the description is nothing like reality. The set up was not to our liking and the reception service we got on the day of arrival were abysmal, no phones in the room so one has to walk down to reception to make requests. The AC's in both rooms did not work. The location was ok, but too busy and noisy for our liking. Our bathroom only had hand wash and shower gel, no bath gel. Not great for the price offered, We ended up moving to another hotel.

Verified reviewQuiet though in the center of Stone Town Service very good. Excellent breakfast I felt very safe wherever I went day or night, just use your normal city street sense.
Be aware this is really in the center of Stone Town. The “streets” are extremely narrow, no vehicles allowed. This is an attraction but be aware that a very short walk will be required from your taxi. Not a negative for me but be aware.

The food is the best in Zanzibar, so don't miss to take the room with breakfast and dinner. The staff is so professional even if something serious happened to you during your stay.
