How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewExcellent breakfast, and location, nice view but small windows.
We arrived 3 PM (time of check in) one of our rooms was ready, other not, we wait almost 2 hours, when we get the room, there was no extra bed, no crib, we call reception and wait for more than one hour and half, still not prepared, although we call them from our country to confirm our requirements.

Verified reviewThe best location, great food and breakfast, very spacious and comfortable rooms. Nice view at breakfast
Although the hotel has generators when there are power cuts, the rooms next to the generators get really noisy

Verified reviewWe probably spent more nights than most guests, as we stayed almost five nights at the Park Hyatt in Stone Town. Our first impression was very positive — the building is historic and truly beautiful. The location is perfect for exploring the city, and the staff are exceptionally kind and welcoming. The pool is also very pleasant, although a little colder than we expected for this type of property, which was a small surprise. Overall, it is a very beautiful hotel in a unique and authentic setting, one that really tells a story. This, in our opinion, is its greatest strength.
On the less positive side, the quality of the food is not at the level one would expect from a five-star hotel. It is important to underline this, as five stars represent the highest standard. The variety and quality of the meals are well below that level. I would not say the food was bad, but it certainly did not match five-star standards. Breakfast, however, is very good and feels homemade, which we really appreciated. On Sundays, they also offer a brunch that is fresh and tasty, though in my opinion a little overpriced for what is offered. Aside from that, dining was not a highlight, and it could be greatly improved with a simpler but better-curated menu. Another important point is the service: it is not at all the level of a true five-star hotel. The staff are extremely kind, but management should invest much more in training to meet the expectations of high-end clientele. That said, the guest experience manager who organizes activities is excellent, and we had a wonderful time outside the hotel thanks to the excursions arranged. As for the rooms, they are spacious and beautifully designed. However, the ones located on the pool and beach side face the inner streets. While not noisy, they are very humid. After a day or two, the humidity inside the room becomes noticeable and uncomfortable, which is a real downside.

Verified reviewBeautiful clean room. Very welcoming staff always ready to assist. Bountiful very tasty and diverse breakfast. Friday night BBQ dinner was amazing with beef, chicken, fish, lobster and prawns prepared in front of the quests by the sea, accompanied by live music.
We booked for a family with 2 children, but there was only a bed for 1 child prepared in the room when we arrived.

Verified reviewThe customer service specially at the reception truly lacks the skills to deal with customers pleasantly. In our extremely short stay of 1 day we were truly dissapointed. Small things like we needed help with an adapter or needed logistical support for a tour booked with the hotel and the staff did not put any effort to guide us. The reception never answered calls from the room. We had requested for a delayed check out, which the team had agreed to and then when we came for checkout they were dissmissive and rude.

Verified reviewOur room was gorgeous and very comfortable! The view of the ocean was gorgeous, and the room was fantastic. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The location was great - we could walk to most of the Old Town in a few minutes, and while we found review complaining about being woken by the call to prayer in the morning, we never heard it from our room. The bed was super comfortable, and the room could be made quite dark by the curtains. The concierge recommended a really fantastic rooftop dinner that originally I was a bit skeptical of at first, but it ended up being one of the nicest dinners we had on our 3 week holiday. Very very little to actually complain about with our stay - the accommodation and staff were truly wonderful.
The breakfast was fine, though the breakfast staff didn't seem to understand what a dairy allergy was. Also, a minor complaint, but they were almost too attentive - we just wanted to eat our breakfast in peace, but they kept interrupting us to clear plates, give new utensils, check on the latest thing we put on our plate at the buffet, say hello, explain the food, etc. I appreciate they're trying to get things perfect by being attentive, but man - chill out a bit and let us just eat in peace! Oh, also - seeing a man shit on the beach in front of the hotel from my room. That was a real down point. 🤢🤮
Dear Will, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed review. We truly appreciate your kind words about our team, cleanliness, location, and facilities — we're delighted that these aspects of your stay met your expectations. We also want to thank you for your honest feedback regarding the service experience. While our team aims to be attentive and ensure guests have everything they need, we understand that at times, too many check-ins can feel intrusive. Your comments are valuable and have been shared with our team to help us strike a better balance in offering service that is both thoughtful and respectful of our guests' space. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Warm regards, Park Hyatt Zanzibar Management Team
