Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIf I had to mention one small thing … the hot water took a minute to kick in sometimes and they fix it..but honestly, it’s such a minor detail and didn’t take away from the amazing experience we had …ill come back ofc
We stayed at Kai Zanzibar for our anniversary and couldn’t have picked a better place. The room was spacious, beautifully designed with earthy tones and local touches that felt both luxurious and authentic. Breakfasts were fresh and generous …tropical fruits, warm pastries, eggs made to order..The staff were so warm and genuine…they surprised us with flowers and even a slice of cake for our special day

NetherlandsWifi and electricty, but this was absolutly not the fauld of the hotel, it is a big problem on the island, so be prepared and pack an extern powerbank in your luggage.
We we´re here for two weeks for our honeymoon. Really beautifull hotel, great pool. Variety for breakfast too. We also did a couple of times our lunch and dinner there, was also very good. The staff is great, very helpfull, especially Harriet, she is really sweet. On our last day our flight was changed, we asked the manager Mounir if it was possible to get a late check out. We got the villa for a whole day untill 12 am! This was a special extra bonus for us, happy that we could chill and shower before we would go on our long flight back home. Kai Zanzibar, thank you for everything, you made our honeymoon extra special.

United KingdomI believe the hotel opened too early, they are really new and have a lot of things to work on. The jacuzzi in the rooms cannot be used, when you switch on the jacuzzi tap, rusty water pours out. The ceiling fan did not work in my room. There were constant power outages specifically around 7-8pm daily lasting between 1-10 minutes - the employees are very good and would provide me with a lamp. This place is called Kai Zanzibar Hotel and Spa - there is no spa. They recently opened their kitchen, i had a seafood platter and the fish wasn’t cooked throughout. In the Restaurant area, the salt and pepper shakers were empty. Whilst in my room, 3/4 women came to take inventory and they also noted that things were missing like some decor etc - it was awkward, could this not have been done before i checked in or before the hotel opened? The hotel manager also appears to be quite rude to the staff, i saw him harshly shouting at employees on two separate occasions, he even pushed a male employee at one point. I didn’t complain or make too much of a fuss because the place is beautiful and the employees are so kind but I do think they need to work on things and maybe reopen at a later date.
Very aesthetic and very attentive staff

South AfricaWe were disappointed that the pool closed in the evenings. Since most activities took place during the day, we often returned to the hotel later only to find the pool closed, which meant we couldn’t enjoy it. There were also power cuts during the day, which was inconvenient. The room was a bit smaller than expected with very limited clothing storage space, and the Wi-Fi connection was inconsistent.
We really enjoyed the aesthetic of the hotel it had a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the bed was very comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep

SwitzerlandThe smell in the room was unpleasant, and almost every day the electricity was cut and there was also no hot water during this period. In the bathroom, a piece of a nail was sticking out of the floor, so we asked for it to be removed before someone got hurt.

United Arab EmiratesBesides breakfast the restaurant doesn't offer meals but will instead pick up something outside for you and plate it....they constantly suggested on particular restaurant near the beach which was ok but would have been nice to actually have food at the hotel.... A few mocktails and sodas... When we booked I assumed they had a spa but was surprised that they don't or are yet to have it I don't know... The amenities in the bathroom are just basic if I didn't pack our toothbrush and paste id have had to buy.... Overall I don't think my husband and I would be going there again if we decide to visit Zanzibar again... The day we checked out I got a message from reception claiming we left without paying city tax for our 4 night stay ($40) when it was the first thing we did before checking in .
The size of the Room was great.. very comfortable bed. The breakfast was good but very limited... The staff tried their best to deliver service though a bit slow... Close to the local market outside and other supermarkets... 5-10 minutes walk to the beach.. when we arrived we were upgraded to villa.. which was great
