How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The stairs to the roof top restaurant were a work out. The aircon was quite noisy and was leaking.

Verified reviewThe good: beautiful rooms (oddly enough, the toilets are very high off the ground. I’m 5’9 and my ferry didn’t touch the ground when sitting on them), hot showers, nice and hospitable staff, walking distance to most places in stone town
The bad: the rooms varied significantly in size from tiny to huge and all rates were the same, the service at the restaurant was painfully slow and only a few of their menu items were actually available, check in and check out were a hassle. On check in, me and my sisters rooms were merged because we had the same last name (very different first names and we booked separately), my friend was charged an incorrect amount and, when trying to correct it, they tried to overcharge her. They also attempted to overcharge my sister. We all used booking.com. The ugly: I had to change rooms in the because the AC went out middle of the night, leaked on all of my luggage, and was making God awful noises. Reception was not available overnight and the ceiling fan was not working so I spent the night in a very hot room. The walls are paper thin. My first room was above the reception and I could hear conversations and the phone ringing as if they were outside my door. Could also hear my neighbors (luckily they were my sisters), anyone walking past the door, and people praying outside. If I were to stay again, I’d bring headphones to sleep in

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my stay. One of the highlights was the rooftop area at the restaurant – absolutely stunning in the evening! It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal or drink while watching the sunset. The view is truly breathtaking and adds something special to the whole experience. 1. The room's infrastructure had serious flaws. The toilet seat was so high it was uncomfortable for anyone under 6 feet. We had to hop on it! The overhead shower was directly over the toilet, forcing us to sit on the toilet to shower. This design was completely unthoughtful and uncomfortable. 2. Cleanliness was a major concern. The duvet cover had red stains, possibly blood, from a previous guest. Despite the room being cleaned twice after we tracked in some sand on our shoes, the sand was never removed from the footmat outside the bathroom, and the mat was not changed. Also, the pipe under the sink leaked, the shower drain was blocked and detached from the floor, and the safety locker in the room didn't work. 3. The restaurant had inconsistent meal timings and limited variety. We were told breakfast was from 6 AM to 10 AM, and they did accommodate a 10:30 AM request once. However, one morning at 9:45 AM, the breakfast spread was already cleared. The breakfast itself was the same four items every day, with no changes or variety. We were also told dinner was available until 10 PM, but one evening at 9:20 PM, the restaurant was closed with no staff present. This was very inconvenient. 4. While the staff were friendly and well-intentioned, they struggled to help or follow simple instructions. This happened repeatedly, possibly due to language barriers or lack of training. It was also annoying to be chased by the front desk for administrative issues that should have been handled more professionally. There was also repeated miscommunication from the front desk staff regarding our queries during our stay. 5. The payment process was a huge hassle. They charge excessive fees for card payments in dollars. Cash payments in Tanzanian Shillings (TSZ) were the only straightforward option. Unlike other businesses in the area, they didn't have a card machine for TSZ.

Upper terrace with an incredible view of all Stone Town to have a breakfast with a wonderful view of the ocean and the real Stone Town.
Just a note to the owners: the request for 5% on credit card payments, by regulation of the Central Bank of Tanzania, it is no longer allowed for businesses to charge customers 5% on credit card payments, since we also had to eliminate it in our restaurant, it would be better to eliminate it here too to avoid problems. Also because someone could report them for this.
