How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe were very impressed by Hotel Amaranth. The hotel is very close to the Mbezi bus station which was extremely convenient for our journey to the Usambara Mountains. The hotel kindly reserved our bus tickets for us, provided a free bus transfer to the station and prepared us all a packed breakfast to take with us, even though our bus was at 5:30am! The staff were very friendly, the rooms were very clean and comfortable and the on-site restaurant was lovely.
Dear Annabelle, Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Hotel Amaranth and that our location, services, and staff made your journey easier. It was a pleasure to host you, and we hope to welcome you back again soon! Warm regards, Hotel Amaranth Team

Verified reviewThe hotel at the foto is similar what we found, the receptionist was very friendly and helpful with information, the swimming seems nice and clean.
The location was not what was expected, it’s very far from the city and there’s a lot of music noise the night we arrived (Thursday). Inside of our room, we found tiny cockroach’s everywhere. At the weekend they had two events very loud until 23pm or late, without any advice before about it. The breakfast very poor, need to be improved. The room had a bad smell, sewage.
Hi, thanks for your review, though not very clear about the location, as it is very well explained in the booking site, we will follow up and address the comments, the events music will also be addressed, as we have very rare occasions of that nature, we appreciate your business and warm welcome once more

Verified reviewI had an incredible experience staying at Hotel Amaranth. I initially booked for a week but ended up extending my stay for another week because I felt so comfortable and well looked after. The hotel manager kindly gave me a generous discount for the extended stay, as well as a discounted late checkout on my last day — a very thoughtful gesture I truly appreciated. The staff were outstanding across the board — from reception to housekeeping, kitchen, bar, and security. Everyone was professional, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell the team works together with a shared commitment to making guests feel at home. The room was spotless, well-designed, and very comfortable. I especially enjoyed having the pool view, and the air conditioning and hot water worked perfectly. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is calm and peaceful — a great place to rest, away from the busyness of the city. Food-wise, the hotel exceeded my expectations. Their ugali and chicken makange were the best I’ve ever had, and the beef sambusas were easily the best in town — crispy, juicy, and full of flavour. The bar was also excellent and very affordable. I really enjoyed relaxing there in the evenings with my favourite drink — Serengeti Lite, always served cold and fresh. One of the standout features was the Wi-Fi — fast, stable, and honestly the best I’ve experienced in Dar es Salaam. I had no issues with streaming, video calls, or working online during my entire stay. It’s a huge plus for both business travellers and casual guests. The hotel also offers great facilities including a clean swimming pool, peaceful garden spaces, reliable room service, and ample secure parking. The security staff were always present, respectful, and made me feel completely safe at all times. I’ll definitely be returning on future trips to Dar es Salaam( in June ). I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, secure, and welcoming place to stay.

Verified reviewThe food was really good, tasty and fresh. The property is beautiful and has everything you need. The room is well set up and comfortable. Seems like a well staffed facility with helpful staff. Close to local culture.
It is very far away from center of dar es salaam and airport. Airport transfer offered by the hotel is too expensive. Room service for food is too slow.
Thanks for staying with us, and we are very happy you gave us a review and comments. Your comment gives us insights in areas to improve. the hotel is well placed in area to server transit from the city to all regions and nearby countries from Maguful Internation Bus Terminal which is 1km from the hotel. We offer free pickup and drop-off to and from the Bus Terminal; as from the Airport we charge normal market rate(we will look at this as well). Welcome once again and staying with us

Verified reviewIf you have an early morning departure from the Magufuli bus station then Hotel Amaranth is likely your only convenient option. They provide a complementary shuttle service to the bus station for guests at any time. The room was reasonable - mosquito net, AC, complementary water, small fridge and jug.
There was no convenient place to put your luggage. The switch for one of the lights was broken - I feared to touch it as I thought that I might be electrocuted, however, one of the staff showed me how to use it. Nonetheless, it should have been fixed. There is no distinct shower area, so when you have a shower all of the bathroom floor is soaked, which is inconvenient.
Thanks for taking time to write to us. Your positive review and comments are of great value, we are happy to reading from you, surely, we will address your concerns asp. have a pleasant trip in the country

Verified reviewI expected a lot less considering the cheap price. Actually, the hotel was nice and the staff members were very helpful. It was excellent value for money.
There was no mosquito net in my room so mosquitoes affected my sleep and were frustrating at times.
Thanks for your review and positive comments. We have mosquito’s net on demand and can easily be inserted, rooms are spread with mosquitos’ insecticides before quest check-in, will improve to make your stay more convenient and comfort, we welcome you back

Verified reviewI really liked the pool, which is really beautiful and also has some massage jets. The shower in my room was also good for African conditions. The fruit juices at the bar were good too.
The staff at the bar and in the restaurant looked very tired and overworked. (Maybe the staff should get more off days, that they have more energy on their work days) There was a massive construction site for a few days, which blocked the whole stairhouse to my room, that I couldn't even pass, because the stairway was under construction. Terrible..! (As a courtesy for the circumstances I got one night of my stay refunded, which I appreciated) Some of the Receptionist were a bit arrogant and slowly partly.
Dear Markus Thanks very much for your time staying with us, we appreciate your review and comments, will take them possitivey to improve our services, welcome once again brother
