How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable
The check in procedure was weird. No one was there and the entry was hidden behind some trash. I had to put the money in a safe and make a video of it. The situation felt a bit sketchy and I didn’t feel super safe in the hostel. Also the room is really bad isolated (the wall doesn’t even go up to the roof) so you can hear EVERYTHING that goes on with the other guests. I was really really unlucky and had some really really disgusting neighbors on my floor. I got out of there as soon as I could

Verified reviewIf you're just looking for a place to sleep, its absolutely fine... The host is communicative, the bathrooms are clean and the location is good (close to main station) Theres a common room to chill in and free water.
Its very small (about 20 cms of storage space and a bed) and you can hear everything from the other rooms.

Verified review- close to the train station - self check-in - early check in
- super thing walls where you could hear everything, more like a dorm - set of rules that were more than questionable (but maaaybe a little understandable considering the thing walls) - ground floor looked very deserted and run down - only one water dispenser on the second floor

Verified review- Good value for money. - Common area with water dispenser and place to sit/relax/recharge. - short walk from Train station. Close to McDonalds and many places to eat.
- Construction going on during the day (didn't bother me). - Rooms are small, as advertised. - Bed is pretty low quality (can feel the springs), but it's okay for short stay

Verified reviewGood value for money and good location. Free water in the lobby to refill!
We booked a double private but when we arrived, the room was really small and we realized the walls didn't reach the ceiling and there was a sign saying no talking or making noise (or no farting??), so really it was like a compartment of a large dorm rather than the private room we thought we were getting. I'm pretty sure the mattress was an air mattress, and the bathroom looked a little grim. It was very cheap, you get what you pay for, absolutely no frills. I would rather pay a bit more than stay again.

Verified reviewCheap stop in Hualien. Near 7/11 and short 5-10 min walk to the train station. Lots of good options around. Around 20-30 mins walk to the night market and coats area. Easy self checkin by whatsapping the owner . Bathroom had toiletries
Very small rooms (smaller than expected.) don’t expect to have any space in the room. There would not be room for big backpacks or suitcases. We were on bikes so had small panniers. tiny amount of floor space at the foot of the bed. Rooms are not private as the walls don’t go all the way up between beds. So we could hear the other guests and the road and it was very noisy even with earplugs. They seem to offer payment to give good reviews.

Verified reviewFree water, the air-mattress was super confortable and it’s very well located. The AC is very nice and they provide towels
The WiFi doesn’t work in the bed, there’s a sign asking the clients to let a 10/10 review in exchange of a discount.

Verified reviewRoom and bed very comfortable, hostel close to the train station.
Rooms are small, ok for a backpack but probably a bit complicated for a suitcase. No kitchen.

Verified reviewLocation not far from the train station but even in that 10 minute walk we passed at least 10 other vastly better options for accommodation which we wished we had stayed in.
Absolutely horrendous accommodation. As you come in the sofas downstairs are dirty so not a great first impression. The pictures do not do justice to how absurdly small the rooms are which contain a bed and enough space for two people to stand next to eachother by the door. Not even space for your bag. The space along the bed was also filthy. The rooms are not in fact rooms but cubicles which are separated by flimsy walls which do not reach all the way to the ceiling or stop any sound travelling. There was only one bathroom on our floor which was almost always occupied. The bathroom was by far the worst part as the entire ceiling and some of the wall was covered in thick black mold which honestly seemed unsafe to breath in though this didn't seem to be the case on all the floors. This place was also advertising monetary bribes for good reviews...there are not enough funds available in the world for me to consider this hostel in any sort of positive way...
