Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeNothing, everything was great!
The best hotel I've stayed in for my two weeks in Taiwan. The room was large, and the space was modern chic and smartly designed. The toilet has ample table top storage, and the toilet bowl was Japanese style. The owner was extremely helpful in recommending places to visit in and around Hualien. The hotel is as close as you can get to the Hualien train station, noting that there aren't many buildings in the immediate vicinity of the station.

United StatesHonestly, nothing. This place was great. I guess they could have had breakfast but that wasn't a big deal.
Great location near the train station but quiet. Really beautiful interior and staff were helpful. Good selection of guide books. LOVED the giant tub in the room. TV was small but easy to use. Liked the view.

AustraliaThe only thing I didn't like was the constant smell of cigarettes on the 5th floor - I'm guessing it's from people smoking upstairs, and the whole corridor smells of it and spreads into the bedrooms.
Clean, spacious, beautiful rooms that are affordable and in a convenient location, plus super friendly and lovely staff! One of the best accommodations I've stayed from my many trips across the world!

AustraliaThere is not always someone on duty to answer any questions or solve problems but Chris is always very helpful with information and local knowledge. My favourite restaurant nearby which served such fabulous sushi rolls, has closed down which was very disappointing for me.
I didn't chose the breakfast option this year but I have in the past. Chris prepares an immaculately presented Taiwanese breakfast. This year I just popped round the corner to the 7/11 and had my usual sandwich, juice and banana. The room is very big and quiet as I had one of the back rooms. I also used the washing machine which was a bonus as not all hotels have such a facility. The hotel is one hundred metres from the train station so for rail travellers like me, its location is great.

SingaporeNothing.
The owner was really kind and patient throughout the check-in process. He provided timely advice on the sites to visit. The room was well-maintained and spacious. The proximity to the bus and train station is a big plus too. Note that you would probably need to take the bus to the main city centre.

SingaporeThat there is only one key issued for each room.
1. The staff introduces the city to you at check-in rather than just handle the administration of your stay. 2. Has free washing and drying, detergent provided. 3. Spacious room, although listed as for 4 people, the room can sleep 5 with a huge sofa. 4. Play area for young children at the lobby. 5. Comfortable lounge with free drinks to do your work/catch up with friends. 6. Has a distilled water machine in the lounge to make up for the relatively subpar City water that leaves traces of minerals even after boiling.

Absolutely value for money stay! Location is perfect, near the main train station and main bus terminal (less than 5mins walk). Super convenient to get around to other parts of Hualien. 7-11 nearby as well. Room was spacious and clean (my most spacious accom in Taiwan). Most importantly there is a lift so you do not have to worry about carrying your luggages up the stairs. Staff was friendly as well, provided us with a map and showed us places of interest and eateries he reccomends. Will stay again if I am back in Hualien.

United StatesNothing - it was perfect! If I must, it's not the guesthouse but the national earthquake warning notifications that woke me up in the middle of the night...
Hospitality from the owner was exceptional. We weren't sure where to go or what to do because of the recent earthquake, so he kindly showed us various routes we could take - whether by car rental or public transportation. He even made us breakfast from scratch! Homemade AND delicious! The guesthouse was also very close to the station as listed in their name, so it was very convenient for us.

SingaporeRoom is spacious and clean. There is a lift within the property so no need to carry the luggages up. The host had also kindly left drinks in the common area for our consumption. Location is very convenient. The train and bus stations are within ~5mins walk from the property. We could easily get to the night market from the bus station as well. Will book again if we are in the area!
