Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaOne tiny bottle of water per day per room when it is so cheap to buy in Tunis!
The hotel had a lovely charm and was ornately decorated. Good air conditioning and a comfortable bed. I missed Western things like tea and coffee-making facilities in the room. An iron and ironing board would have been a plus, too. It had a great breakfast!

United KingdomThe coffee at breakfast could be improved and perhaps a choice of black tea. The fridge was a bit dysfunctional, but the lady who came to resolve that and my lack of knowledge about the TV dongle, was lovely.and helpful.
Very good welcome and professional reception staff. Good breakfast and hospitable breakfast staff. The place is quite charming and is positioned well for train station access, the Medina and the main boulevard with Little Ben at one end. Beautiful view from the balcony overlooking the square.

United StatesOverall, everything was nice. The mattress was a little old, and the refrigerator didn't cool very well. It really didn't make much difference though as we slept well and we went downstairs to the café if we needed a cold drink. Taking our luggage in and out was a little difficult as parking was at a premium, but we managed with help from the staff.
Great location right next to the entrance to the souk. All of the staff was incredible. Friendly and accommodating to our needs. The breakfast buffet was good with lots of choices. The café below was a great place to hang out. The hotel was historic and the decor was very interesting. Overall, it was a nice time there for 3 nights.

ThailandThe facilities and the cleanliness.
The hotel has very nice decorations but is very outdated as well. The location is near the Medina and other sightseeing places. The facilities don’t meet one’s needs. The daily cleaning is not up to standard. As I’ve seen some hair, dust and small pieces of tissue left on the floor during my stay. Overall it’s still good for tourists to walk around in the old town and to find restaurants.

United StatesNothing.
Firstly, it was great to reserve a Taxi in advance through Booking.com since this is our first time stepping foot into the African continent. It was so convenient to have someone with a sign looking for you by the airport exit. I love the location of the Hotel Royal Victoria because it's right next to the Souks marketplaces which is like a maze if you are not careful. Cafe, restaurants and banks are nearby. The hotel staffs are unbelievably helpful and friendly. I never thought learning a foreign language can be so challenging until I tried learning a little Arabic. When I realized at least 50% of the people in Tunis also speak French, I felt so relief. The room, the lobby and the hallway are as ornate as you see in their photos. The mosaic tiles are stunning. Oh, I love the breakfast. The kitchen staff (the cook) was so wonderful so I tipped her every morning. Since we were staying there for 3 days, I was able to try everything from Omelet to pastries to "believe it or not, eggplant".

United StatesMy room lacked any real air conditioning. The system moved air but failed to cool it,so I slept with windows open. In the summer months this might be a problem. The bustling plaza in front of the hotel becomes quiet at night-until about 6 a.m. when motor traffic can be heard.
The location ,at the Medina's edge,is the main advantage of this hotel. Next is the heritage character of the building itself.Third ,the wonderful outdoor cafe attached to the hotel. Hotel's restaurant is pretty good. Breakfast was acceptable.I appreciated the fresh strawberries and oranges each morning. Pleasant front office ,restaurant and cleaning staff.

CanadaTwo minor points: -Wifi within the hotel can be very slow and spotty (note: this was true at all the other hotels we stayed at too, NOT just the HRV, so no 'rating deductions' were made for this). Easiest solution is to just use cellular data on your phone. It should not be a big deal for most people as you can get 25GB for only about 10Euros when you land at the Tunis airport (2025 May). Unless livestreaming sports, that will be more than enough for several weeks of travelling. -The mini-fridge (initially) did not work. The reason was because it was tightly housed in a wooden 'cube/case' which was uncomfortably warm. Suspecting insufficient air circulation, we managed to slide the fridge out of the wooden cube/stand and onto the floor. Sure enough, the top surface of the fridge was insanely hot to the touch. While there were six holes on the back of the cube, it was not enough as the other four sides were almost touching the walls/top/bottom of the fridge. After about 30-45 min sitting on the floor of the room, you could comfortably touch the exterior, and the inside of the fridge was finally cooling things. For the rest of the trip we consistently had cold water/drinks and it even formed a bit of ice! keeping the fridge on the floor (vice inside the cabinet) was a bit of a pain in the arse to step over, but it was worth it. Before departing, we shoved the fridge back into the wooden cube (where it probably started to run hot again). We forgot to inform the management of what happened when we checked out. Overall, it was a minor inconvenience, but if the hotel management is reading this, I recommend those wooden cubes that house the mini-fridges be thrown out or burned as firewood. Your fridges will run a lot easier, and cut your power bills immensely. Don't take either of these as a recommendation against the HRV. Just be aware of them, as I suspect similar problems may occur anywhere else too.
Great location. We were lucky to have a view of the square. Staff were all very helpful and great.
