Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyEverything super good. The location is super central even though is not easy the access for taxi, as you are literally inside the Medina but still you can reach a super close principal road where you can take taxi. The property itself is super beautiful and really authentic, also the breakfast nothing to say we had a great one and super healthy and fresh. Ricotta was amazing.

ItalyThe bathroom was not up to the hotel’s standards, it was small, uncomfortable, with old and broken parts.
Very beautiful traditional Tunisian house with lovely collections of traditional pottery and sculptures. Excellent breakfast. Strategic position in the Medina. Very confortable bed and spacious room.

GermanyGood location in the medina - walking distance of the main sites. Be careful when ordering taxi as it gets tricky - better give the main road next to it and walk the last 2 min

SpainI think the room could have been upgraded a touch more. The structure of the place was authentic and beautiful, but the modern touches could have been a little better thought out. But at least it was personal and not corporate. Also, the hotel is in a pretty grim side alley (once you have spent some time there, it no longer feels threatening).
This is a small boutique hotel in an old private house, converted to have 8 bedrooms. They have a tremendous ceramic collection. Really nice, artistic feel, personalised treatment.

AustraliaArriving during Eid followed by a Sunday meant no restaurants were open, some provision at the hotel would have been useful and it would have been great to be able to have ice. No team making facilities but Jude’s allowed me to use the kitchen any time.
Location as excellent and staff very friendly and helpful.

AustraliaShower wasn’t very clean. Staff were pleasant enough but not particularly helpful. Location is ok, but can be a bit dodgy at nighttime. Our room overlooked the alley so was quite noisy. We dropped off clothes to be laundered and this didn’t despite assurances it could be completed in time.
Beautiful old heritage hotel. Wonderful breakfasts served by attentive staff. Beautiful rooftop. Tidy and comfortable room.

GermanyNothing!
Everything was great, from the location to the design to the facilities to the staff. I liked the walk from the Dar to Ez Zitouna Moschee even more than the blue city Sidi Bou Said! The Dar rooftop is great for views and has ample lounging space. The staff is very kind and helpful.

Pretty Heating was on which is welcomed arriving on the cold evening ! Slept well thanks The egg breakfast is great if only there’s more savoury and less sweet stuff which we don’t tend to eat that’ll be even more fabulous

RussiaI had one problem. My flight was delayed and I arrived later than I expected. it was about 1am. It was dark, I didn't find this hotel right away, I called the reception but no one answered. A local guy from a shop nearby helped me find the hotel and when I checked in, tired after a long flight, the receptionist told me that it was night time and it couldn't be check-in time, although I had booked 2 nights from Friday to Saturday (13th of December) and Saturday to Sunday (14th of December). I arrived on Friday night, which was the time of my booking. If checking in at night is not possible at all, this should be considered in the hotel description.
I really liked this place. I wanted to stay in the historical place in the heart of Tunisian Medina, that's why I booked this hotel. Everything was amazing. I fell in love with interior, food and hospitality of staff. And I'd like to say thank a guy Youssef (I hope I wrote his name correctly), he helps with serving a breakfast and organize food workshops. He's the only person who spoke English really well and I could ask for help in English. It's really crucial as I don't speak French, so only Youssef helped to cope with everything. And I would like to mention the cleanliness, the room was very clean and cosy. Dar Ben Gacem is highly recommended!

Germanynothing to mention, all good, all fine!
I liked the premises of this accommodation (a former palace with collection of artworks) and the location of the accommodation in the beautiful medina of Tunisia's capital city Tunis - in the evening / sunset hours I liked the view from the rooftop terrace - The staff is really friendly and hospitable - My room was big and clean and well equipped - They offered to book me a reliable transfer to the airport (slightly on the expensive side) to be safe to be at the airport in time for check-in

BelgiumBig room with amazing traditional decoration, rooftop terrace, and a library. Nice and helpful staff, very responsive. Tasty breakfast (especially the omelette). Very good location: around 10 min walk from the Medina on the beautiful rue de Pacha (where there is another, apparently even more luxurious Dar Ben Gacem by the same owners). Highly recommend for all those who want the experience the spirit of old Tunis.

United StatesWe only stayed for one night but had a great time. The staff helped set up transportation from the airport for 15 EUR. When we arrived, we were shown to our room. The building is beautiful, especially the rooftop. Since we arrived late, they helped us get food. The beds are comfortable, and the bathroom was overall clean. The breakfast was delicious!!
