How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewRight on the shore of the lake
Absolutely hideous. The staff on site, including the owner does not respect his guests at all. One group of guests played loud music until 4 am in the morning and the owner was partying with them. There is no sink in the bathroom, no toilet seat, no towels or toilet paper. Out of two beds only one had a blanket. Bedsheets are dirty. Onsite facilities are terrible. Go anywhere but here

Verified reviewExcellent location on the Iskanderkul lake, especially since it's a bit further away from the other lodgings and resorts. Nice, basic rooms and important amenities are in place Great service from the very friendly staff Very good dinner, with different options
Breakfast could have been a bit more varied

Verified reviewOne of the only places where you can stay lakeside around Iskanderkul, and one of the only places you can get into the water. Walking distance to waterfall. Friendly family concern. Can sit out over the lake.
Beds and room had not been cleaned. No sink in bathroom (brushed teeth in shower, couldn't shave, washed hands after toilet in shower). Difficult to find on arrival - pin from booking.com inaccurate, guest house known as Khayom locally, booking.com provided phone numbers didn't work (property did whatsapp on day of arrival but we didn't receive as poor signal).

Verified reviewThere aren’t many options around Iskanderkul, and this guesthouse requires a short walk to reach, although it’s just off the main road. The owners speak decent English, which helps.
Breakfast was included but quite underwhelming — the bread seemed several days old. No AC in the room, and dinner was offered for $7, which felt expensive by Tajik standards, so I declined. The room was generally not very clean, and the water pressure in the shower was very weak. There was no toilet paper in the room when I arrived, and I had to ask for it. One pillow was missing, one bed had holes in the sheets, and the towels provided were dirty. The bathroom also had no mirror. Another downside was the constant upselling — for example, they offered a taxi back to Sarvoda for 300 somoni, even though I paid only 200 coming in with a different driver. Overall, the stay was okay, but it’s quite overpriced — around double what you’d pay for similar accommodation in other parts of Tajikistan. I suppose you’re mostly paying for the location. Also, there’s no Wi-Fi.

Verified reviewBeautiful location directly by the lake, apricot trees in the garden, no neighbors around. It's run by a very hospitable family. Be prepared for digital detox as there's no mobile internet or wifi. Make sure you mark the location. It's listed as "Khayom" on Google Maps.
Cleanliness can be improved. A mirror in the bathroom would be nice. Unfortunaley, my first dinner upset my stomach, the second one gave me food poisoning. If possible, bring your own supplies.

Verified reviewThe "hotel", (indeed a room in a private house),is located on the shore of the lake in a lonely and fantastic position, 3Km. after the road from Sarvoda reaches the lake. The scenery is beautiful, not the room. The mattress is hard, no bed lamps, no sink in the bathroom, the toilet seat is loose, there are mosquitos in the dinig room. The dinner was fair, nothing more. The owner ask me 200 and not 100 somoni to drive to Sarvoda. Anyway the other locations on the lake are worse.

Verified reviewWe liked almost everything at the accommodation. The staff were kind, attentive and helpful. The rooms were basic with their private showers, yet exactly what one needs. One can hang out in the garden by the lake where they serve breakfast and dinner at any time. A short walk away from Alexander's Cave at the south end and about 30 minutes from the tourist park at the north end. The host can also drive you to Sarvoda for 100 somoni per person.
The bathrooms could have a sink, the rooms a lamp. They did not have laundry and one had to wash their clothes by hand.

Verified reviewThe location at Iskanderkul is amazing. It's a bit away from the main center, which is actually a plus—it offers a peaceful, undisturbed environment. We also experienced warm hospitality from the host family and enjoyed delicious home-cooked meals. The view is stunning, with the place situated right by the lake, making the overall setting truly special.
The room facilities could be improved, especially the bathroom. I’m not complaining much, but adding simple things like body wash, shampoo, and bottled water would really enhance the guest experience.

Verified reviewAmazing location right on the water - the only other alternative is a soviet-era bungalow base so no competition. The host is extremely friendly and helpful.
I booked the cheapest room and it wasn’t very clean (maybe the others were better). The bed also not very comfortable. Normally these would count for a lower score but there’s literally no alternative and the setting is amazing so the 9 is fair.
