How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWhat the guest house lacks in amenities is compensated by the cool atmosphere. I stayed all in all four nights in the hostel and saw quite many people come and go as their average stay was shorter. As the hostel is entered through the living room / kitchen, unless one is very introverted, meeting very interesting people is so easy here. At best the atmosphere resembled that of an alcohol and noise free house party. Additionally, the hostel is practically located close to the bazaar. The owner's son speaks excellent English and the owner herself tries her best in English as well.
Finding the place without help when first arriving could be challenging. In Central Asia, I'm already used to rooms without a reading light (an issue here as well) but additionally, small, cheap improvements would be welcome (waste bin in the room, hand towel in the toilet).

Verified reviewThis guesthouse is a little bit hard to find at first but the location is very center of the city… short walk to local markets and attractions. My room is pretty comfortable. AC works perfect which is a bless for extremely hot days while I was there. Basic breakfasts are included which consisted of fried egg, sausages, breads, and fruit.
Common area is bit too small.

It's not easy to find. I had to ask two people to find it. The price is expensive.

Verified reviewThe staff in particular the owners' daughter was extremely helpful, always available, always trying to help, really nice family. The overall atmosphere was really nice and we extended our stay. Nice area for the bicycles to be stored
The dormitory was double booked when got there but they found a solution. The area for breakfast is a bit small and the breakfast is always the same if you stay several days. Whilst the linen is very clean, the overall guesthouse could be cleaner.

Expensive, but the cheapest place in Khujand overall. Accommodation is not cheap here.

Verified reviewStaff were nice and helpful. The breakfast was really great! Simple clean kitchen with fridge and freezer. Location was near to market and good eateries.
The AC was hardly working during the 40-degree days, so the room wasnt that cool even with the ac set to 16.. the beds were bit uncomfortable and could feel the springs and sheets didnt fit the bed so they kept coming off. No bins in the room or kitchen. Hardly any space to keep your bag. One toilet wouldn't flush so just smelt like piss the whole time and bathrooms weren't cleaned frequently enough.

Verified reviewFantastic location and the main hostess was extremely kind and welcoming. She made breakfast whenever we wanted.
The price is borderline robbery in a city like Khujand. I know it’s the cheapest out paying over 10$ per night is way to expensive. After the first night, they tried to make us pay extra than the night before. An employee made up a bullshit reason that the family room THEY put us in the night before was only for families. Since the three of us were just friends, we would have to pay extra for the three beds. But after som arguing they rescinded there ridiculous claim. The power also ran out in the middle of the day, because they forgot to top up the gas or something. 40 degrees and no AC should never happen when that charge that price.
Dear Fredrik, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are glad to hear that you appreciated our fantastic location and that our main hostess made you feel welcome and flexible with breakfast times — your kind words mean a lot to us. We are truly sorry, however, that other aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. We regret the misunderstanding regarding the room type and pricing — we understand how frustrating this must have been and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We will make sure to clarify our room policies and rates better in the future to avoid any similar confusion. Regarding the temporary power outage, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, especially given the heat. We are working to improve our facilities and prevent such situations from happening again. Thank you once again for your honest feedback — it helps us improve. We hope you will give us another chance in the future to provide you with a better experience. Best regards, Guest house Sharq 21

There was little or no running water most of the time, so it was very difficult to use the toilet or take a shower.
