Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomKey deposit of $10 seems very old fashion, and logistically difficult to get the deposit back, when there is often no staff on site. Dog often on premises and takes a crap in front of your room, could do without that to be honest.
Great location to the central square. We had the double room which was a nice size and the bed was very comfortable.

SlovakiaIt is a simple hostel with basic facilities. If you're looking for affordable accommodation, it works. If you want a little more comfort, there are plenty to choose from in Juayúa.

Canada1. Only cold shower; 2. They show free parking at a location nearby. About 2 hours after perking my motorcycle at a neighbour's, the host came to me and asked for another 25% of the daily fee, for parking. When I refused, she was OK with it. Should not have asked; 3. The directions provided in the confirmation email, are incorrect. I had to phone the hostess and ask her to send me correct directions. If I hadn't had an internet connection, I could not have done this and never been able to find the hostel.

Russiadisgusting behavior of the staff. they think that this is their home and guests are just an obstacle. they will BURP like crazy all evening long, smoke next to your windows, they will play phone games with volume on maximum and shouting and swearing at each other while playing. forget about having any rest cold water in showers only, no common space (kitchen occupied by that boys with zero manners), it’s difficult to identify hostel from the street when you first arrive

Germany-
Wonderful little hostal very well located just a few minutes walk from the central plaza of Juayúa. Everything you need as a traveller: comfy beds (dorms or double rooms available), clean bathrooms and a kitchen for cooking. There's a Pupusería just a few steps away. The owner Isabel is very welcoming and they offer great tour options. We went with Matteo to see some amazing places, waterfalls and nature. Definitely recommend this cosy little place! Thank you, we enjoyed a lot our stay!

AustraliaI booked to stay here with a group for our last night in Juayua as the hostel we had already been staying in was full for the weekend. The manager and I had a conversation about our group size as it was one extra for the space (4 people in a family room) on WhatsApp two days prior to our arrival. They advised there was a bunk bed and a double bed in the room so it would not be a problem. Therefore I kept the booking. When we arrived we were checked in by her son, and offered tours. He was pleasant enough although vaping in the common space. The room we were allocated only had beds for 3 people- (a single and a double)- this was different to the conversation I had previously when booking, but we accepted that we could use our own sleeping mat as it was just one night. We asked if they had towels, they were an extra $1.50 with $1.50 deposit so we declined. You must also pay a $5 deposit for the key. There is a small dog in the hostel which is very cute but came into our room and pissed on my shoe and the floor. The boy offered nothing to clean it up, he looked in the kitchen sink (!?) for a cloth but I used toilet paper and cleaned it myself. They had no change for us to pay for the room with a larger $ bill so we left to buy some things from the supermarket and get smaller notes. When we returned the manager was there. She offered us tours and scooter rental but seemed annoyed. We explained we had already seen the sights of Juayua and were leaving the next day. She was immediately hostile and accused us of trying to sneak an extra person in the room, and demanded we pay an additional $10 for this person. I questioned that we did not have enough beds for the people, and that we had already had a conversation about this on WhatsApp and no mention was made of extra charge. We tried to negotiate a compromise but she was not interested and denied any previous communication had taken place.
Location. Good price for tours. Dog is cute.

GuatemalaGood location in Juauya and affordable. The room we stayed in has very little privacy; the door opens directly into the kitchen area and you can hear everything outside. There wasn't much natural light in the room. The communication wasn't great: we had to wait a while to get in and get responses on our queries after we checked in. No drinking water is provided. Only fleece blankets in the room, not sheets, and no towels.

United StatesAbusive practice - woman-in-charge, Isabel. No signboard or anything at all to indicate to hostel. Nobody to receive us. Another guest banged on a steel blue door. A guest inside opened the door. 3 couples, including myself, and 1 single were trying to check-in. They were overbooked - 1 couple and the single had to find some place else, no room for them although they booked in advance. I got a small double bed, instead of a 3-person room that I booked. Another couple was given a dormitory bed instead of a private room. Close to midnight I heard banging on the door, no one open the door (the son lived there). I got the room I booked on my 3rd day. Another guest was asked for additional laundry money after their laundry was done and money paid to the housekeeper. Instead of $2 quoted by the housekeeper, Isabel asked for $8 the next day. Hide the kettle and basin when I tried to boiled some water to wash myself (water is especially cold here). She was not happy when I asked about the kettle. Found myself with the water inexplicably turned off in the middle of brushing teeth. These comical passive-aggressive behaviours were the norm from Isabel if she was not happy with you. Quite an experience!!!

Czech RepublicOnly fact I really didn’t like was the fact that we were asked to pay for leaving our backpacks at the hostel 3 hours before checking. Also after talking to some people we realized that they charge quite a bit more for 7 cascadas tour then what the guide actually asks for. So in conclusion the hostel was nice just really didn’t feel good about those things.
The hostel was okay for the price, clean with nice kitchen.

Friendly and helpful hosts, clean rooms and bathrooms, the fans in the room worked well to keep it cool at night, central location, access to the kitchen, good value for Juayua where the accommodation is a bit more expensive than Santa Ana. We also did the 7 waterfalls hike with Mathew which was awesome! He knew every step and we felt very safe on the hike even though it’s a bit of an extreme activity.
