How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGente d’aqui has an incredible location right next to the beautiful shore, with amazing views. The owner was incredibly helpful and went extra mile to help us organise additional activities. It is possible to get a massage on the property, which with the skilled massager, views, and sounds of waves was probably the best massage I ever had. There is a local bar right around the corner where we had a funny night with some great memories. Praia sete ondas just couple of minutes away with car, and boca do inferno is just couple of walking minutes away. All in all, I definitely recommend Gente d’aqui and love to return one day.
Everything was amazing, I only regret not staying longer.

Verified reviewThe property is general is well-maintained and on top of the cliff with a beautiful view right outside the door. There is a small grassy area with some chairs and tables where you can sit. The breakfast was also very good with a nice personal touch of the staff. There are also some stairs so you can walk down to the water and rocks.
At night the noise of rain or random things falling on / blowing into the bungalow was very loud.

Verified reviewThis is a true gem, perfect from start to finish. Nice relaxing view, working internet and Jao is the perfect host, taking time to talk and explain island life. Went to another place in the south after this which was totally opposite.
Nothing.

Verified reviewDue to an unforeseen change of plans, we booked our stay just a few hours before arriving. Joao contacted me right away via WhatsApp to let us know he wouldn’t be there initially, but he made sure someone was expecting us and ready to greet us. This excellent communication continued throughout our stay. Joao’s hospitality was the standout—he was always available for anything we needed and genuinely cared that we had a great experience. He went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh fruit, bread and eggs, (and even soya yoghurt—which he had gone out especially to get for me as a vegetarian) Our room had a beautiful view of the sea, and we could hear the waves crashing as we fell asleep—I slept really well here. The location is in a village, and although we don’t speak Portuguese, the locals were very friendly. We even enjoyed a drink at the local bar and felt very safe the entire time.
The only thing that could have made the stay even better would be if the large picture window in our room had a one-way mirror—we would have loved to sleep with the curtains open and wake up to that spectacular view.
Thanks for an amazing review. All the staff appreciated that. Many thanks! Hope to see you again!

Verified reviewThe owners were extremely kind. They invited us to eat with them, booked us dinner in the village bar, bought us a bottle of palm wine when we said we wanted to try it. The view was also magnificent: you're 10 metres away from a deep blue sea and the glorious, crashing waves.
There isn't much to do when it rains (which seems to be every other day). The rooms have dim lighting, which makes it hard to read or hang out there, and there's only the breakfast area beyond that.

Verified reviewGreat spot with amazing view from bed where waves will sing you to sleep. Located in the community but still isolated. People in the community are very friendly, local bar recommended to experience the vibes. Hosts Sara, her brother and Joao will do everything to make your stay unforgettable. They speak English as well.

Verified reviewEverything! Celia is absolutely great running this community based accommodation. Helpful for giving information. The place is overlooking the ocean and the cabanas have a huge window with the view of the sea. Tasty local breakfast, loads of fresh fruits. The rooms have a basic interior, mosquito nets are provided. As this is a place in the middle of a community staying there is an extremely immersive experience. The local people of Agua Ize are friendly and hospitable. We loved every minute.
It needs to be said that the place surrounding are noisy which could be a bit annoying to some people but the sounds of various animals, people working and the newly opened local small bar back doors just belongs to the daily life of the local people. The music in the bar was loud but only until 22:30 and after that it was quiet. We recommend to visit the local bar for a beer with the neighbors. Absolutely fantastic experience.

Verified reviewA superb location at the cliffs of Sao Tome. The room was big and clean, with good water pressure. There was even wifi in the room. Breakfast was ok.
We received no information beforehand and apparently had to reserve dinner a day before. As we couldn't eat at the hotel, we had to go out in the dark. We travelled by public transport and thus had to walk over muddy unlit roads.

Verified reviewCélia is an excellent host, 👌 with attention to detail and never too invasive, making everyone feel at paradise. The nice balance between the surrounding local community it is her persistent and refined work. And it elevates our experience with the locals. Breakfast is nice and delicious, and we had dinner cooked by a local woman. It amazed us how delicious and surprising it was. The location near the sea is memorable and top-notch! The management of all facilities, cleaning, etc, is well organized. Highly recommended 👌
The low light inside the room was not sufficient enough to read at night.

Verified reviewThe location is perfect, so close to the see, capital and some main sights, also easy to drive to other parts of the island. Calm location, although directly next to a local community, which we much appreciated. The facilities are simple, very ecological, but all we wished for was available. Good breakfast and dinner. Celia, the owner, is super helpful and arranges whatever needed.

Verified reviewOur hosts Célia and her cats and dogs made sure to make our stay very pleasant. The very large garden and the bungalows are decorated with care, and make it comfortable to spend some peaceful and quiet time in there. Célia cooked us a very tasty local dish dinner. People in the community around are very friendly.
The environment was noisy during the night, as waves crashed very loudly on the reef right in front of the bungalow, even though the sea was relatively quiet. The cliff on the side seems to be amplifying the noise. There is no mosquito net in the room with single beds. This was not a problem during our stay in the dry season, but might be one when it's more humid.
