How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

No air conditioner which is not making stay inconvenient on the first floor of the room but it's quite hot on the second floor under the roof.

Verified reviewWe stopped at the castle for one night only, to rest on our way from Belgrade to Trieste. It literally turned into the highlight of our trip! We were very regretful that we booked one night only. We loved our stay so much that we immediately decided to come back as soon as possible. Everything was absolutely impeccable. The room was spacious and clean; the dinner and the breakfast were delicious. The grounds are out of a fairytale. Next time, we will definitely book one day more and play some golf on the castle grounds and visit the nearby Terme Čatež.

Verified reviewAMAZING!!! The rich history of the castle and restored buildings as well as the charm of the furniture also kept from previous centuries. The restaurant gave the same impression-modern menu in a restored dining room. The food was beyond delicious. The staff was above expectations - polite and well educated in history and gave us a tour around the castle and golf courts. Although it needs more restoration which I suppose is very expensive I hope it will stay as beautiful as I experienced it. I wish to express my gratitude to Izet and all staff at the Castle Mokrice for everything.

Property is effectively closed on a Monday. This isn’t clear on Booking.com but we received a message saying it was the staff day off. No restaurant, no bar, only a receptionist that closed at 8pm as did the castle gates. They recommended a restaurant that was 15 km away but taxi fare was €70 (return). There was no tea/coffee facilities in the room. They should not sell rooms for Monday as it isn’t open and is effectively a bed and breakfast.

Our castle and bar are open every day of the week from 7:30 in the morning until 8:00 in the evening (and longer if needed), without any day off. This means that our guests are always welcome to enjoy a coffee, juice, wine, or cocktails with us every single day. The only facility that is closed on Mondays is our restaurant, as this is the staff’s rest day after working every other day of the week, including Sundays. However, this does not affect the breakfast service for our hotel guests – breakfast is always available, and we are sorry if this was not clearly communicated to you. Additionally, when the restaurant is closed, our reception team always provides guests with several nearby options for lunch or dinner. The closest restaurant is just a 10-minute walk away, so taking a taxi is not necessary. We apologize if there was a miscommunication between you and our reception regarding this matter. We are truly sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations and that you were left with an impression that does not reflect the reality of our services. Verified reviewThe castle itself (where breakfast is served) is really great. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and the location is secluded and quiet. Breakfast was very good. Eggs made to order. Fresh pancakes were served on one day and then fresh crepes the next. At the price, I think it is really good value. There is also a restaurant in the castle which I would highly reccommend. They serve a 3 course menu starting at €38 in a luxury setting and matching quality of food and service. It makes for a special night out, in a castle! Excellent value.
We prefer firmer mattresses. There were some other minor niggles in the room but the staff were quick to respond and offered us a new room without argument.

Verified reviewThe location is great. Close to Zaghreb and one hour drive to Lubiana. If you play golf, it is great, but even if you don't, you would love the calm and green surroundings. The breakfast is good but not very cheap. Prices at the bar are also fairly high, maybe because we are close to the Croatian border?
The room had a few wasps flying around in the bedroom when we arrived and it does not have air conditioning. Also there were a few spider nets, symptoms of a poor cleaning. It is the single most expensive accommodation we had during our trip to the Western Balkans but surely not the better one we had. Maybe we paid a lot because it is an ancient and fascinating castle, but we slept in a separate building, so the charme part was lost. The beds are not comfortable and I woke up with a big pain in the neck.

Sadly, the cleaning was not the best... it was clean, but a few things were missed, like food in the fridge from previous guests. Also, I suggest that you book the rooms with AC if there is a chance of hot weather.
