How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe stayed at Volcano view while traveling through Rwanda with a group of 4 adults and 6 children (2 families). Jorjo’s house was our base for trips to twin lakes, golden monkey hike and bisoke hike. Jorjo and her team made us feel very welcome and at home. It was very handy Jorjo has a lot of connections and suggestions. It was very rainy when we where there. The service to clean our shoes after hikes was amazing. We stayed in for a lovely home cooked dinner for one night ($15 pp). The kids loved being able to play some basketball, play with Carice and the dog. We can recommend staying at Volcano View!

Verified reviewThe breakfast was good and the hired staff very nice and helpful. I had a 2-story unit with the upstairs bedroom (with mosquito netting) and a bathroom that was ok. Potential visitors that plan on going on the Gorilla Trek/Golden Monkey walk should be advised that the owner charges $100 USD RT to take you to the Gorilla trek and $30 USD for the Golden Monkeys.
Ordinarily I would have given this place a 7-8 rating. It was an okay place to stay. But unfortunately, the owner, Isaac, and I had a big problem when I left. I had independently hired a car to bring me to the hotel from Kigali. I was charged $70 USD for that and given that it is a 2 1/2 hour drive, I thought that was reasonable. That driver also offered to come from Kigali to pick me up when I checked out, but Isaac said he would arrange a driver for me for the same amount which I thought was the better option. So that day, I gave Isaac $100 USD, $30 to take me to the Golden Monkeys, and $70 for the ride to Kilgali. The car/driver was waiting for me when I checked out, and before we drove away from the hotel, Isaac and his wife jumped into the back seat. I thought they might want to be dropped off in town somewhere, but it quickly became apparent that they intended to ride all the way to Kigali. I told them that would be okay, but that it would only be fair to split the cost of the car. They didn't agree at all, since I had already agreed to pay $70. The discussion became very unpleasant, and I told them to get out of the car, not knowing how it was going to end up. By that point we were a bit far from the hotel, but I agreed to have the driver take them back to the hotel. BTW, during the heated "discussion" Isaac said that the 2 1/2 hour trip to Kigali was only $30 and the $70 was for the Golden Monkeys. So he offered me $15, half of the $30, to have him and his wife go all the way to Kigali. It has been a few weeks since this incident and it still bothers me a lot.
Thank you for your review. I am so sorry dear Frederick that the situation still bothers you and I didn’t want to be that way, Genuinely wanted you to have better experience with us. Back to the story: Like I told you when I was offering the transport to Golden it was 70usd and we were done with it until you came when I was seating down with my Friend and you told me that the driver who brought you from Kigali to my place he charged you 70usd and you think is a lot. Which wasn’t to be honest as you were picked from the other side of the city near the airport. I remember every time we talk you would go to your room and come back with some more questions. Then you asked me if I could take you to Kigali and I happily said that I will take you for both Kigali and Golden monkeys for 100usd as it was on the same day and you said it is ok. When you agreed I said that I might be not the one to take you as my car is big and I will make loss due to fuel that is why I asked my friend with hybrid car to take you. On the day we supposed go to Kigali, I ask if we can join you said yes and I was surprised that on the way you asked again if we are going to Kigali and I said yes then you didn’t take it well for some reason. You told me if we can share the cost I said that I charged you low price because I was going to ride with you otherwise. For your information. You did not tell us to get out of the car as I was the one who told you that i think it is becoming to complicated for you to understand so let the driver who I hired by myself to take back us home as were we just few Brocks a way from home and this made you so angry agree. Before we turned back you said that you don’t understand why i can’t just sprit 70usd and go together I said that I already charged your low price 30usd because 70usd was for Golden monkeys but you weren’t understanding it and you kept insisting that transfer to Kigali was 70usd and I said why I should have charged you 70usd when you already told me that the previous driver charge you a lot 70usd. Note: Golden monkeys transfer is not 30usd, It is 70usd. Actually the car I used you saw it was big car and itself to hire it self drive it is 100usd per day without fuel. 70usd is normally for small car not 4x4. All went well until this day and I don’t know why but for any reasons please we are very sorry and we hope you will have a way to forgive us. Kind regards Isaac.

Verified reviewA comfortable guesthouse, homely and welcoming. The staff are friendly and very willing to accommodate my requests. I was able to make tea, use the fridge and prepare snacks in the guesthouse kitchen. Breakfast was cooked when requested, including one very early start, or packed up. It included the usual eggs and fresh fruits, but nice brown bread was also available. Room 1 is large and faces a small garden at the front. Furnishings are adequate but nothing fancy. The bed is comfortable. Wifi is good. Outdoor seats on the front terrace are a nice feature. The self- contained annex is recently built and very contemporary and attractive.
Don't expect a view of the volcanos, they are in the city background like everywhere else in Musanze, but not seen from the rooms or garden. The main guesthouse could do with a few repairs and coat of paint in places but this does not detract from the nice welcome and atomosphere.
Hello dear Thank you for your honest feedback and we appreciate it a lot for your support. I took a long time to reply because I wanted to fix humidity issues. We just finished serious renovation now, We are free of humidity and we are completely new. Humidity issues are everywhere here especially at Volcanoes NP area. Also regarding the view of the Volcanoes those days you can’t see them with the property due to a lot of buildings has been built around us. When we opened in 2016 the view were amazing. You can still see volcanoes from the street just outside the premises. We are looking forward to hosting you again and we promise this time. You shall have wonderful experience. Many thanks

Verified reviewIf I wanted an all-around western comfort accommodation in this area, I would have to spend at least 6,000 USD. For a fraction of such price you get a good b&b with a comfortable bed. Everything -the grounds, common areas, room, bed, under the furniture, bathroom, house kitchen - very very clean (the "wardrobe" was dusty though). Staff is amazing, very welcoming, friendly, accommodating, always genuinely eager to help. Speacial thanks to Isaac for his superb communication. Isaac also turned out to be a wealth of information and an expert on travels around Rwanda and Uganda. I met travellers for whom Isaac designed and organized exciting activities in both countries. Isaac can also arrange transfer from Kibale. If I ever go back to Rwanda, I will base myself in Volcano View for several days and take all these activities ran by Isaac. I would even bring kids.
For such price, I can't complain, but for future travellers here - the process to get hot water is to push a red button next to the shower head, then wait for AT LEAST an hour (not 30 min as staff says). Then you have exactly 7 min to take a shower. We learned it the hard way as the first night we weren't careful and one person used up all hot water.
Dear Yuliya, Thank you so much for such great feedback. It means a lot to us. We shall continue to make sure that we make your visit more memorable and enjoyable. Many thanks

Verified reviewPeople are super friendly and kind. Room is comfortable. Good shower temperature and pressure (but you need to turn the boiler on 30-60 min before shower)
The doors are very thin so you hear everything from the living room. The breakfast is quite simple and feels repetitive.
Dear Alan, Thank you for your feedback it means a lot to us. We appreciate your comments I will check with the door and I might change or do something with it to make it more soundproof. Regarding breakfast we normally as if you would like to change the next day and if it wasn’t the case I will make sure that we offer variety of breakfast. We thank you a lot for choosing us and we hope to host you again sometime in the future. Many thanks Isaac

Verified reviewI was planning to stay one or two nights at Volcano View but ended up staying 5 nights. The rooms are spacious, clean and cozy in a nice house in a residential area. The neighborhood is quiet but yet not so far away from the city center (just a short walk). Isaac and his team have been wonderful hosts. They helped me plan my visits to the Volcanoes National Park and easily arranged transport for the four days I spent there. Everyday my breakfast was on the table at 6am and by 6h30 my lift was ready to take me to the park. I highly recommand this B&B!
