How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location of the hotel was perfect for our needs - so close to the cruise port! The room had everything we needed. It was comfortable stay! Despite a storm knocking out the power, the property's generator ensured that our stay was not affected.
We had no complaints regarding this property.

Verified reviewRoom was very basic but fine, not at all noiseproof with only a thin wooden door connecting it to the adjacent room with another guest.
Horrible hospitality and care for guests. We had a flight arriving at 1.00 am in the morning. I paid for the full night, read the Booking.com policies that check-in was available 24/7, and confirmed not once, but TWICE directly with the property through the Booking.com messaging page that we could check in between 1:00-2:00 am with no problem. Both times, the hotel staff messaged to confirm that this would not be an issue. However, when we arrived, the front door was locked. Thankfully after ten minutes another guest let us into the lobby, but we were still waiting in a public staircase for an additional 20-30 minutes. In total, we had to wait ~45 minutes for the staff to show up and check us in. We were new to the city and were left in unsafe environments in the middle of the night after paying for the full night and confirming a late check-in twice. During check out a few days later, I calmly and politely brought up the issue, and asked politely for a partial refund for the first night as is standard in instances like this. The hotel clerk was incredibly rude, questioning my background and insulting me for thinking that the city was unsafe (I had received death threats from a passerby the day after). He eventually contacted a manager who offered a one-night credit for the future, but that was not sufficient as I had no plans to return and, even if I did, would never book this hotel again. The clerk pressured me to sign this offer, and was further impolite when I did not, reserving my right to contact the booking platform. After several minutes I left, and informed Booking.com of the issue. Booking.com then contacted the property on my behalf to lodge a formal complaint and request the partial refund again. The property did not respond to them despite Booking.com reaching out by both phone and email.
Thank you Sir, for such an elaborate and elloquent review. We certainly regret any real and substantiated inconvenience at checkin. Guest experience as can be seen by many reviews, is paramount priority for our staff. We are perplexed as to why you would wait till checkout to make a formal complain of your experience. After your initial complain we took the time to review security cameras and indeed you were waiting, but in a well lit, recorded, while our night shift attendant was on a lawful break. (Fortunately, our street is where the Governors mansion is also situated and many plain clothed officers are regularly policing this and all of Old San Juan) There was also no visible threat or individual besides the guests that let you in, which for their security, really should not have done so. While safely inside, we can confirm by security cameras that you were not waiting an additional 30 minutes as you have indicated. Furthermore, 2 night management telephone numbers, as well as 911 are clearly posted both on the door and in the elevator, as well as on the door of our reception area. Yet. despite feeling so "terrified", you never called any of the posted numbers, nor reported your experience with the attendant, and subsequentally stayed the duration of your stay (5 FIVE nights) to our knowledge quite contently and secure noted by our staff. Sadly, you only complained upon checkout to attempt to acquire an unsubstantiated refund, after being served and accomodated for five whole nights. Regardless, and in response to your complaint, the manager kindly approved a credit for your 1st night for your next vist, which clearly you were not forced to accept. We stand by our staff, service rendered and security footage which clearly refutes your account. We are proud to provide one of the best value stays for guest's money. Case and point, you benefitted from, taking advantage of an average $90 special fare, for a safe, clean centric boutique experience in the heart of our beloved Old San Juan. To close on a positive note, we certainly hope that you loved the centric location on the premier and safest street in the city, of our capital and literally only 1 minutes walk from the Governors mansion.

Verified reviewIt was in the city center, was clean
We arrived early in the morning, stayed for about one hour before we could be checked in despite informing them that our flight would arrive in the early hours or rather late hours of the day we paid for. It wasn't a good experience

My room didn't have a window, the lack of sunlight was uncomfortable.

Verified reviewThe only positive comment i have about this hotel is the location. It is in the heart of Old San Juan and walking distance to shops and restaurants
This hotel is supposedly pet friendly but charges an unfriendly $50 per night pet fee. I have stayed at several San Juan hotels in the last year and have never paid more than $25 a night. This fee felt exorbitant compared to the reasonable cost of the room. The room itself was not comfortable. Central AC controls every room's temperature, where some rooms are hotter than others. Mine was on the warm side. The night attendant kindly allowed me to switch rooms. But unfortunately, this room shared a wall with a loud couple next door. As the walls are thin, i heard everything they were saying. Needless to say, I did not sleep well. Also, the room has no windows so it feels claustrophobic. If you want a cheap stay in OSJ and are not traveling with a pet, this could be an option. For me, I will stay somewhere else next time.

The room had no windows and was freezing but also humid. We also had a shared wooden door with the next room over and could hear the man snoring and watching tv all night
