How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWE LOVED THIS PROPERTY SO MUCH!!! Rollin was kind enough to give us an upgrade with an extremely spacious tent and two super comfy queen air mattresses opposed to originally booked twin sizes for 4 nights which had a SPECTACULAR VIEW of the island. The tent was rainproof even during a heavy rainstorm and had a convenient power cord with two outlets inside of the tent. There were multiple seating areas to enjoy along with a picnic table to eat meals while watching the sunset. The bathrooms were well kept and the showers were amazing after coming back super sandy from a long day at the beach. Rollin and Ladygirl (his adorable border collie) were so hospitable and generous. He gave us many helpful tips and sightseeing suggestions and we couldn’t have enjoyed our vacation anywhere near as much without them. His yard also had mango, banana, and soursop trees which Rollin graciously allowed us to help ourselves along with morning coffee. CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH!!
Nothing!!
Lana, Thank you, this is what I hope all guest see and experience when they visit Rooster Run Guest House and Camping. We hope to see you all again, sooner than later, Rollin and Lady-Girl

Verified reviewThe owner, Rollin, and his dog, lady girl, we’re good host and balanced the ‘glamping’ situation. He gave us a welcome homemade juice and made sure we had a flashlight for night. He kindly agreed to make us coffee in the morning.
There needs to be several additions to camping on concrete before it can pass as glamping. It wasn’t an inflatable bed but a half deflated mattress pad. I was extremely cold with the sheet-only - glamping should have a blanket, even camping has a sleeping bag. I put the provided towel over the sheet to be able to sleep at all. Mom & I were woken up 5:30am by the “sounds of nature” - hundreds of roosters cockadoodling off the chain. Then when they died down we slept an additional hour before waking ip in a hot sweat from the sun beating down on the roof. A cassette toilet or bucket 🪣 toilet is essential on each floor, we had to go down 3 flights in the middle of the night to use the toilet. All tents by default should have flashlights and other camping essentials and glamping amenities.
Phoebe, Thank you for taking the time to reply. First, thank you for your warm praise for my hospitality and sincere desire for your comfort and safety. You left several thoughts regarding your discomfort that I would like to respond to. The underlying problem that I observed was your older Mom's limited mobility. The tent I provided you was the more expensive 5 persons and larger tent where you could stand and have plenty of room to move around. You may remember I offered a very popular inside bedroom and private bath with traditional beds for a very small price difference of the tent. However, you chose to stay with the tent on the roof. The roof was mentioned in the listing and has to be accessed by stairs. No one has had issues regarding the stairs in any of the other reviews, but most campers have good mobility and are usually not senior citizens with mobility difficulties. Camping in a tent is not for everyone, and frankly, I wish non campers or older folks with health issues wouldn't try to do more than they are physically able to do, because the money they may save is overshadowed by the challanging conditions they may experience due to their conditions. The distance from rooftop tents to the restrooms and private showers is right at 100 feet, give or take a little, and offer new and clean accommodations, but they are on the first level. Again, there are no problems mentioned by other previous guests. Thank you for your idea of a "waste bucket." Where the trip may not be ideal, I don't know if a waste bucket is doable by a business because of health concerns and regulations. You can or may be able to bring your own waste bucket if you like, providing you maintain the obvious issues. I can't see where I, as the business, can offer such without additional fees. Which cleans the spill in the event a camper knocks a bucket over? What di I do with a soiled tent and linens? Yuk The BathHouse is a much more hygiene and manageable alternative to waste buckets... at least in my mind. What about the nature aspect of camping on Vieques? There are easily 50,000 + -, wild chickens on the island. They are everywhere, and they never stop doing what chickens do while Roosters do what they do with no known way to control their nature and Unfortunately, they don't sleep when we sleep and roisters may start talking to each other 24 hrs a day. That's one reason Rooster Run Guest House and Camping is called Rooster Run because they are everywhere on the island. I sincerely thank you for your positive points and respect your other comments. My hope is that other potential camping guests don't try to camp if they have limitations such as mobility, bathroom needs, or a sensitivity to the sounds of nature, or not accustomed to sleeping on air mattresses. Your mattresses were actually single person high-end backpacker's mattresses and slightly smaller than traditional twin mattresses that may be on a bunkbed. I have full size, and queen mattresses if requested. Again, it's very rare for campers to complain about the beds, but the lack of camping experience can create an unexpected result. For that, I truly regret your experience, had you said anything; I would have made a change for you. For other potential camping guests reading this review... please read many other reviews as well where Rooster Run Guest House and Camping has a 9 + overall review. Also, please recognize any physical conditions you or your guests may have and opt not to push your limitations just to save a buck. Our inside rooms have private baths and ac. Bring ear plugs if the sounds of nature interfere with your ability to rest comfortably outside... because Vieques has lots of the sounds of nature. Request a full or queen bed for additional comfort, and I'll do all I can to accommodate your request. As my reviews indicate, I truly try for everyone to have the best possible experience without breaking the budget. Thanks again. Please come again. Rollin and Lady-Girl

Regret you felt this was what it was. You stayed for $21/person and expected the Hilton or Mariot... Part of the problem was you said your reservation was for two adults, and you brought three... so that certainly set the tone. You said you had never camped before, and it rained, so I am sure the rain, the outdoor aspect, and not having a private bathroom didn't help your opinion. Im sure. Thank you for recognizing the staff with a 10 :-) I wished the other criteria had met better approval, and I will work on that. I suggest you not try accommodations less than the Wyndham?...Its a tough act for anyplace to follow where you spent the night before. After all, going from 5 star $100's per night resort to camping on a remote island and paying less than $22/night/person in a crowed tent had to be a shock! Congrats for trying

Verified reviewThe owner went out of his way to ensure our group of 9 had a set-up that worked for us. He was very responsive to messages and even had me call him to work out more intricate details. It was a fantastic experience for college students visiting for a service trip, the air pads were quite comfy, the conversation and recommendations were top notch (and you can't say you weren't warned about the rooster calls in advance, ha). Lovely experience, thank you!
Thank you for sych a nice and thoughtful review. Whether my guest(s) are single ladies traveling our a large group, I like to anticipate what will make your time on Vieques special. There are many natural challenges that you may not expect and I try to make those challenges easier to deal with. The message that most miss is that Vieques should not be just a day trip. Set more time aside to really fall back to a more simple time and see what it's like to really get away for a few days. Please remember your May-Sep offer to enjoy just such a stay. Thanks again and remember it's not the time you take that counts, it's what you do with it. I hope to see you all again soon! Verified reviewDavid is a fantastic & friendly host! It's fascinating what he's managed to build here, and run everything all by himself. Would definitely visit again! He made camping (which is not supposed to be very comfortable) a very comfortable experience for us! The tent I booked was for 2 people, and it was actually a huge tent for 2. Neat bathroom, hose pipe outside to wash off all the sand from your beach outings, and an affordable $25 shuttle from & to the ferry terminal. He's got good recommendations on what to do in the island, and his taxi driver recommendation was great too - he was among the most affordable in town.

A bit far from bio bay, if that’s your only goal but worth it for the price
Joseph, Thanks for a great review. Lady-Girl and I enjoyed hosting you and your friend. Our location is a 15 min ride tothe bio bay. Funny thing about living on a small island where I can be anywhere in 20 min or less is that where a 15 min ride may seem like a long way... the short walking distance from/to the ferry prety well off sets any perceived distance to the bio bay. A free ride was pretty good too:-) and the upgrade that saved you as much as $100 from the peak rental mark was good and I was glad to help. I'm not complaining about your concern for the location however there are some often overlooked mitigating circumstances:-). Factor in the cost to stay on the Carribean side of the island and the taxi fare to initially get there and our location is pretty darn good. The distance to stay at Rooster Run Guest House and Camping... well, It's about the same; all things considered... but a lot less expensive overall to stay at Rooster Run Guest House and Camping not to mention a short walk to the ferry late at night or early in the morning when you go home. Please remember to come back from May 1st through September 30th for your BOGO as our (IGP) initial guest promotion! Call 850.258.7647 for your details. Thanks again and see you soon! Verified reviewRollin was a really nice person, he let us use the kitchen for one late dinner we wanted to make despite it wasn´t included. If you try to experience living in a tent with a really nice noise of nature, this is your place.
The location of the place is not the best to go by yourself and if you have big luggage, as the road from the ferry port to the venue is quite steep and difficult. Walking distance is +20 minutes with the hills but not possible with wheely luggage. The bathroom smelled quite bad at certain points. other than that, it was worth it for the price we paid.
Antonio, Your assessment is obviously your own and I appreciate you taking your time and giving your opinion. I can appreciate a budget mind but there are trade offs with walking vs. having a ride being one of them. The Carribean Islands are mostly of volcanic origin and can have some serious hills... serious hills. Hills equal views. Tough choice sometimes right? Taxis or prearranged transportation is always advised. I'm pretty sure I sent you information prior to your arrival for transportation, tours, and more? Www.viequesinsider.com in case I missed it. Camping is fun for most however there's a learning curve to camping. Pack the essentials; less is more sometimes. Don't wear anything you wouldn't be ok being wet in and have comfortable walking shoes. I went the extra mile for you all as I try to do for all our guests and you commented your appreciation and I thank you. I enjoyed being able to enhance your time here as well. My home is always available to share a meal with each other. Camping 'facilities' are inside and shared for now. The separate bathhouse is being completed soon. We will have two private but shared, toilet/sink areas, two private showers with warm water, and a couple outside open air showers and sinks for a refreshing shower under the palms. Bathrooms and bathhouses are commly shared...that's camping. However, campers sometimes practice different levels of water conversation: Like- ""if it's yellow, let it mellow, if its brown, flush it down". That's a common practce sometimes to conserve water resources. I don't require or promote the practice but it happens. Perhaps you followed a believer once? I appoligize for any inconvenience because I clean the bathroom sometimes twice a day and check it regularly throughout the day... but sometimes .. well sorry. Most tent travelers have a backpack vs. heavy luggage and combine that with walking anywhere and it can be a bad combination ... I know from personal experience. I also know that we do what we have to do and I get that. But, I try to help. Vieques is often times thought of as a 1 day trip... and you don't have a place to leave all the stuff you need for a longer trip behind anywhere.. so you have to bring it all and that can be a real pain sometimes! Please remember, I offer early luggage drop off and late luggage pickup for guests, as I have available space. "Stow & GO! :-) Antonio, the numbers of 9's and 10's that everyone has left shows folks can see the real value and beauty that Rooster Run Guest House and Camping is striving for. However, I can always improve. My goal is being the best overall facility available on Vieques where guests have a caring staff, clean and comfortable lodging, a safe and welcoming environment and know they will always have a home away from home at Rooster Run Guest House and Camping on Vieques in Puerto Rico.... All this at a Great Price! Maybe next time: your more comfortable traveling lighter, can stay for at least two paid nights to get a free ferry pick up, and be luckier in the bathhouse? :-) I wish you good luck traveling. We really did enjoy hosting you and wish you come back and stay longer next time. See you again, soon. Rollin and Lady-Girl
