How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery helpful staff! They met me in the airport and ordered a taxi to the hotel. The room was very clean, comfortable bed, great working wifi. I was staying in July, so it was quite cold at nights but there is a heater provided and really huge blankets, so it is not cold to sleep. The location is great, shops and cafes arounds. Great breakfast, the also pack your food if you have an early tour.

Verified reviewI stayed at Picol Hostal for six nights and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. One of the standout features was the space heater in my room—a real bonus, as Cusco can get quite cold in June during the Southern Hemisphere’s winter. The room warmed up quickly and felt wonderfully cosy. The shower provided reliable hot water at all hours, and my room was cleaned daily with fresh towels provided—always appreciated. Breakfast was also excellent. Rather than a communal buffet, each breakfast was individually prepared and labelled by room number, then covered with cling film. I much preferred this to the usual buffet-style service, which can often feel chaotic. I always found myself arriving early at other places to avoid the crowds, so this approach was a welcome change. The spread included fresh bread, cheese, cold meats, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, cereal, and hot coffee—something to suit every taste. The hostal is centrally located, just a short walk from the Plaza de Armas, with plenty of restaurants nearby. The staff were highly professional, and I especially appreciated the complimentary taxi to Cusco airport at the end of my stay. All in all, a fantastic experience—I would happily stay again
I would have preferred to have my own key to let myself in, rather than having to ring the bell and wait for someone to open the door. As a result, there were a few evenings when I’d have liked to stay out a bit later but hesitated, worried I might end up knocking on the door in the middle of the night—not quite the look I was going for! To be fair, the staff never seemed bothered by it, but I thought it was worth mentioning as a small point for consideration.

Verified reviewWhat a gem, nice and quiet amongst the hustle and bustle of Cusco. Comfortable beds, two pillows, rooms cleaned daily, towels super soft and clean. Nice hot shower. TV in the rooms. Use of fridge and Microwave. Breakfast included fruit, cereal, bread, Jam, ham + cheese, plus hard boiled egg. Tea + Coffee + Juice. Staff are very polite and accommodating. Plus a free taxi to or from the hostel!! Denise the owner admits “we focus of service rather than making money” I believe this is true. Huvenal helped speak to a tour operator after the tour company had a computer glitch and missed us off, he managed to speak to them and arrange a quick private collection to carry on the tour. He went above and beyond for us. Laundry is two door away at s/ 6.00 per kg. 24 hour reception. Fantastic hostel that should be called Hotel! Thank you for looking after us.
Everything was perfect, a home from home

Verified reviewThe hostal was in a great central location although most nights were quiet at a reasonable time so could get a good nights sleep. The room was cleaned and bed made each day, good breakfast, even providing a breakfast box if you’re off early, will store your luggage if off on tours and even provided a free taxi to the bus station. It’s more of a small hotel than your typical hostal. I loved my stay here, even adding an extra day.
It would have been nice if they provided a key or code entry to the front door as I had to ring to be let in, even though it was always before midnight. Often there was no one in reception and someone had to come down to let me in. I’m sure they are used to it but it made me feel awkward.

Verified reviewThe property is perfectly located right in the heart of town, just a short walk from the main plaza and several popular attractions—an ideal base for exploring the area. The breakfast is fairly average, but it’s more than enough to fuel you up for an exciting day of sightseeing. Wifi :- Wifi network is also fairly good. What truly stands out here is the staff—they’re the real highlight of the stay. Everyone is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything you might need. Their positive attitude adds a personal and memorable touch to the experience. I stayed in a room on the third floor, which meant a bit of a walk up the stairs, but it wasn’t too strenuous. Overall, a comfortable stay with amazing service, view and a prime location.

Verified reviewIn reading the reviews i feel like I must have stayed at a different place. This hostal is overrated. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is a huge draw, but pickup/drop off was a challenge with drivers. Fresh cut fruit for breakfast was nice. Shower was hot and had good water pressure, but you really have to be quick as it can easily get to scalding. If you turn on the cold, then you have a high pressure ice shower.
Mold on bathroom ceiling, looked like it had been painted over at least once. The hostal has a funk to it as all the bathrooms vent into the interior. The same bologna set out every day for breakfast; i wonder how old it was.

Verified reviewStayed in Cusco for 2 weeks bouncing around diff hotels and hostels and this is by far the best I stayed in. Consistently hot water with great water pressure, hard to find in Cusco. Beds comfy. Breakfast great. And staff going over and above at every step. Special thank you to Juvenil (probably spelt wrong) who went over and above to help me.

Verified reviewThis is a very comfortable place to stay not just because of the comfy beds and quietness despite being in a very central location but because of the amazing staff. They were amazing and always willing to help with very good tips and accommodate extra requests. I went back to Cusco several times during my trip and always went back to this place.
Non-buffet style breakfast, it still very diverse offer

Verified reviewStaff is really sweet and helpful. Pick up from the airport was provided and they called a taxi for me for departure. Breakfast is very simple but good - fresh fruit, coffee/tea, boxed juice, bread, spam like ham and boiled egg. Breakfast is served from 6am which doesn’t work with most tours so they give you a boxed breakfast before you depart which is really nice. Room was clean, a bit cold but there was a small heater and the blanket is really warm. Once in bed I didn’t need the heater anymore. TV with cable and option to switch to English. Hot water with great pressure. Better pressure than most US hotels actually.
It was all great. Maybe start serving breakfast at 5am. Many tours start around 6 so guests can eat before they leave.
