How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLovely stay. Very helpful when I needed to leave my luggage overnight there. The room was very comfy and cosy. Breakfast was OK. I especially loved the pet dog and the owner has a very kind heart, rescuing a pony and feeding a stray dog or two. I gave 50 soles (£10) so that it could be put to food for the animals. I wish her well. The location was great and views were great too.

Verified reviewKatty was a great host. Gave me great local tips in terms of what to do and where to eat. Her food recommendations were the best I've had in Peru. I enjoyed chilling and chatting the evening I arrived. Being an animal lover I loved hanging out with the dog and cats. Comfy dorm bed, good shower and located central to everything in Ollantaytambo.
Nothing.

Verified reviewVery comfortable and clean room, the property felt lovely and homely. Good location in town.
Note that the owner has cats and dogs and often welcomes strays into the communal areas of the hostel. Not a problem for us but worth noting for those who aren’t so animal friendly! Breakfast was very basic - bread rolls with jam (though this may be unusual as there were ongoing issues with water and electricity in the town during our stay).

Verified reviewWell decorated. Great company. Great location. Wonderful views of the archaeological park.
Hot showers were a minor challenge due to the building’s old plumbing.

There were problems with water all through the town, but Katty made sure everyone could have a hot shower

Verified reviewStayed in the Junior Suite with Balcony for 2 nights. The bedroom had lots of windows and sunlight. I found the bed to be the right firmness for me and a generous size.
Cold shower water. Interesting that the room with the highest rental rate also came with water temperature at the pleasure of the guest house operator. The first night of the 2 there were other occupants across the hall from me and hot water for a shower in the morning. The second night, I was the only occupant on the upper floor and the water from the hot water faucet ran freezing cold the next morning for the 10 plus minutes I waited hoping it would become hot. After I insisted on hot water, the facility operator opened the door to the hallway closet containing the water heater for my bedroom and turned it on. View from back window of the Junior Suite with Balcony is of a dirt and gravel lot. A few steps to the left is the dirt and gravel parking area for vans transporting multiple passengers to various locations along the highway. View from side window is another dirt and gravel lot where a market sets up first thing in the morning and with noise from celebrations on some nights. No heat in the building. August nighttime temperature outside often around 4 C. No portable space heater available or permitted. I messaged the guest house before my arrival asking if a portable heater was available. The theme of the reply I received was: No. Maybe you should stay somewhere else. Main floor common area smells of animals. One night 3 cats roamed the living room/sitting room along with 1 dog. The animal smell is persistent and prominent. Breakfast: Bread rolls from the mercado at the end of the street, butter, jam. Coffee - no cream or milk, 2 small slices of cheese, a communal sliced avocado plate.

Verified reviewLocation, view of the mountains. Owner very friendly and helpful- speaks very good English.
No water or light in the bathroom sink. When I arrived at the hotel, it was locked up even though the owner replied to my repeated messages to say she was there. Turns out I should have rang a barely visible bell, something which, in all the back and forth messages, was never mentioned. The owner eventually arrived when I finally knocked on the window. Breakfast was meant to be at 7.40, but by 8 am still wasn’t ready, and consisted only of flask of hottish water and a bread roll. No major problems but overpriced for Ollantaytambo.

Verified reviewKatty is a very friendly host! I totally recommend you staying in Sacred Valley and Chaska Wasi. The moment you step out of the house, you can see old Inca ruins, wow! Be aware that Katty loves animals (dogs and cats), and they are in the house too ;)

Verified reviewBeautiful little hostel, very well located in the heart of Ollantaytambo, close to the mercado and the Plaza de Arma. Katy the host was away when I visited in January, and Ruth, the lady who replaced her was fantastic: we had ver good conversations together, she knows the region and its attractions very well and seem always more than happy to help. The shared lounge is also comfy and ideal for socializing with other travelers.

Verified reviewWe stayed for 3 nights and Katy, the host, was really friendly and helped us with all the questions we had and even brought us tea when we mentioned we were a little ill. The location is just off the main square but the area had a local feel and was quiet at night. The room had a great view of the mountains.
Being off the main square meant water was intermittent and we only had proper hot water on one evening of our stay but it was explained that this is likely to be the case for most hotels not on the square. The property did laundry for us but unfortunately it all came back crumpled and creased and a number of items came back with marks or fluff on them so will have to be relaundered.

Verified reviewKathy, the host, is a literal Angel. She has the sweetest animals that made our stay feel like home; a dog & cat. The downstairs has a cozy area to hang out with couches & our private room was very clean with a very comfortable bed, abundant natural light & a magical view of the Apús & ruins. Hot water was plentiful once you figured out how to use the shower (just ask). we stayed for 5 nights & felt right at home. The location is perfect & convenient to the square, ruins, market & hiking; everything within walking distance. The train station is a 5 min taxi away. My partner had gotten sick at one point & Kathy helped me run around the market collecting things to make a soup with. She knows all the locals & knew exactly where to go & how much to pay. She even made the soup herself along with a medicinal tea to help. She’s an absolute Angel of a woman & really enjoys helping others. She speaks both Spanish & English which was also a help! Thanks for everything, Kathy!
The town had a power outage that lasted a few hrs. This is obviously out of the hostel’s control but do be aware this may occur. We were told it rarely happens but do consider being prepared with an extra battery. Kathy provided battery powered lights which was perfect for us.

Verified reviewThe owner Katie was very nice and I had several interesting conversations with her. She arranged a home stay in the communidad of Huilloq for us for a good price which was one of the best experiences of our whole trip. We stayed at Chaska Wasi several nights. Our room was nice, warm and sunny, with a great view. There is a nice lobby with comfortable sofas to hang out in and converse with people or read. There was plenty of hot water for showers if you follow instructions on when to use it. The guest house is located close to the main plaza, but also on the edge of town at a big field where there are pre-Inca walls. This gave the location a relaxed country feel to it.

Verified reviewOllantaytambo is a VERY small town. Kati speaks great English and arranged for us to visit a local family in the area for a delicious meal and to see how they live. She even walked us over and and waited for the collective to arrive and deposited us on it. She also set us up with a taxi driver the next day to drive us around the area and see some sights, maybe a bit more than we expected to pay, but a great experience. There isn't much to do in the village, so we were glad to have someone guide us.
Breakfast was minimal, just coffee and a roll. Also, she didn't take credit cards, so we had to use up our cash unexpectedly, (now YOU'LL be prepared). Not much to do in the town itself.
