How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewConvenient location. Staff is always available to open doors. Staff does not speak English and we communicated via Google Translate. Nice that they provide coca leaves for tea to adjust to high altitude. Breakfast to go is basic but nice to have when I had to leave early. Can store luggage.
Shower is not hot.

Verified reviewWell, this review is tricky to me as nearly each disadventage had actually its opposite :) and I liked it although it was actually below some expectations. But I still I think it is a VERY GOOD PRICE FOR THE SERVICE. So, if you are tight on the budget, need a nice, cheap and quiet place to stay, this could reaaly be your option. LOCATION - good as it is close to the Plaza of Armas and the collectivo to Ollantaytambo. BUT it is on a noisy street and the closest market is some 3-4 blocks away, and there are no groceries near. BUT there are many pollerias on the street, as well. BREAKFAST - really simple - bread (tasty), butter, jam, juice and eggs (scrambled or fried). BUT the coffee is very good -they bring the essence in the small pot and the thermos of hot water so that you can adjust it it your taste. STAFF - veeeeeeeeeeeeery friendly - BUT they speak only Spanish - BUT...it is actually mentioned in the description on Booking - so should't be a surprise FACILITY - The facility is indeed OLD, so brace yourself for some inconvinience. Like the flow-through thermostat mounted directly on the shower nozzle ;) DOGS and CATS - yes, they are some animals, but they didn't bother me at all - some barking? yes, BUT really not too much
door lock - this is really iritating - each time you want to leave or enter, you need to call the receptionist which makes you unease PAYMENT - only cash (actually mentioned in the description on Booking, too - so should be no surprise) TV - althought it was included in my room, I didn't get it thoughout my 5 day stay (a decoder device missing)

Verified reviewThe staff were the friendliest people. We felt very safe. The front door is always locked. The women who work there made us feel very welcome. The place is super clean, and the breakfast was yummy. The coffee is outstanding.

Verified reviewIt's such a nice and unique place. The owners are amazing, and I felt so safe and comfortable as a solo traveller. I read about how water issues but had none during my stay. Shower was hot and water pressure perfect. The rooms are large and beds comfortable. Don't hesitate to book this one!

Verified reviewWe spent a total of 10 nights in Cusco (inbetween different trips) and always chose Chaquillchaka. Storing luggage inbetween the trips was very easy. The rooms have everything you need, a comfortable bed and a hot shower. The hotel is in walking distance to the city center and definitely great value for money. But the best thing about the hotel is the super nice staff! Thank you for making us feel so welcomed and cared about. :)

Verified reviewFriendly kind host, located out of city center meaning it was quiet. Value for money.
Beds were very worn out and had lost its spring. The hot water was intermittent with unsecured electrical work. The area didn't feel safe on the street, however the ladies at the hotel took care to wait with me for a taxi. Be weary to negotiate price, as Bookinhgs charged me in USD, and hotel tried to charge at inflated Sol rate.

Verified reviewI stayed here for a total of 10 days across multiple reservations, and I would stay here again if I were to return to Cusco. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating to my requests for takeaway breakfast during my early morning tour days (some as early as 4:30AM). Despite limited English, the staff is super friendly. Location was great. There are lots of eateries and a supermarket nearby.
You have to get a staff to open the door for you each and every time you leave and return to the hostel, but there was always someone to do that with minimal wait time. Although this can be a slight hindrance, it makes the hostel quite secure.

Verified reviewLocation. Although located off a main street and only 10 minutes by foot to main square, the place is quiet at night due to rooms located in central courtyard. The staff was very friendly and we were able to communicate well via Google translate. They even provide simple takeaway breakfast if you can’t dine in during breakfast hours of 7-9am. Dine-in breakfast is simple with eggs and bread but the juices are delightful.
That someone needed to open the main door for you each time you go in and out but they do so at all hours including 4.30am for early morning tours. Hot water can be tricky to get in the shower but the key is to turn the knob just a little bit not all the way to get hot water. There are intermittent periods when water is not available due to city shutoff.

Verified reviewThe hostel is located in a busy and loud street, but if you're looking for a cheap place to spend a few nights this is quite ok. Breakfast was good and the room size was fine. The bed was uncomfortable as I could feel the springs poking my ribs but the price was worth the poking. The worst part of my stay is that the main door is kept locked, so if you wanna go out you need to ring a physical bell and wait for staff to come and let you out. This wasn't communicated to me during the check in so the first time I wanted to go out I spent around 10 minutes looking for someone to come open the door.

Verified reviewLovely place to stay. Walking distance to everything. Rooms were cleaned daily, but be aware that the room doors are left open while cleaning on the floor takes place. Can hear neighborhood dogs barking at night, so if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. There is a fire place on the second floor that we lit while we played cards.
