How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Maybe the music in the lobby was repetitive, but that's about it!
I am never gonna please everyone with the music but I do constantly try to change things up and find new mixes. Occasionally this means going through older ones. But we are happy you were able to enjoy some quiet and relaxation and it was a pleasure being of service. Wishing you all the best.

Verified reviewSuch a chill place, close to everything. The food (breakfast) was great and yummy. The owner was so lovely - one of the kindest and friendliest people we have met on our travels so far. Everything you could need, warm showers, AC, ceiling fan. Definitely recommend this place!

Verified reviewGood size room, with a good bathroom. Good A/C and ceiling fan. The hotel was quiet. Away from the more noisy areas in the center of town, although only a short walk there. The manager, and the rest of the staff, were very nice and helpful. The restaurant served good breakfasts at reasonable prices. Good choice for a short stay in Bocas Town.
The so called "balcony" was very small, and with no view at all, very close to the wall of the next building.
This is why we don't advertise balconies in the standard rooms. If you ever come back we would love to give you one of our balcony rooms. We are very happy you had such a pleasant stay, it was a pleasure being of service and we hope you come back soon. Wishing you all the best.

Verified reviewDimitri and rest of the staff are super friendly, laid back and chilled. No stress, no worries. Pure pleasure to stay here. Balcony in the room is a BIG bonus. Walking distance from the local shop with everything you need, bike rental, fruit shop. Ask him for the tours or anything and he'll help you 😁

Verified reviewIn all my 50 years of traveling the world, this place has moved to my #1 (absolutely). Never before has a room (#8) been so completely quiet - no barking dogs, roosters, car noise, guest noise, loud neighbors and music. Even the ceiling fan is silent. The bed was huge and super comfortable. The most peaceful sleep conditions I have ever had. Excellent location - close to my favorite restaurants and shops. Warm shower. One block to the beach. Friendly staff and good food.
Our guest's comfort is a top priority and it's always nice to wake up to a review like this. We are thrilled you had such a pleasant stay, and we look forward to see you again.

Not able to use credit card even if it was written on booking.com or sign standing at the reception desk. I was ask to pay via a link on what’s up which I see as a non secure payment method. Not good!!!
Just to clarify.... you were able to pay using credit card, but I was away for a few days and when I am not here we do it through a secure link, which you refused. Verified reviewLighthouse is a lovely hostal only few minutes away from the busy roads of bocas town. The room was spacious and clean. The food at the restaurant down stairs was very good and very well priced and mr Dimitri who runs the place is very kind and cool. Always willing to help with anything we asked/ needed. We had booked for one night, but on our way back from the other islands we stay an extra couple of days because we liked it a lot.

I rather have breakfast included than get just a discount, i already pay for the stay. The owner felt socially awkward for me, I could not really communicate. It is very basic and old, all in all okay
Sounds like you may have some projection going on here, as I don't even remember you trying to communicate. I can assure I am always available to be of service. Regarding the breakfast, we tried including it when we first opened but find the discount works best. But thank you for sharing your opinion.

At night, people came who made noise and disturbed sleep without a staff member to calm them down.

Verified reviewOlder building but well-constructed and maintained. Restaurant downstairs. Quiet location a few blocks from the more active parts of town. Friendly and helpful owner.
Not only is there no coffeemaker provided in the room, there is even actually a rule against making coffee in the room. I've never heard of such a rule anywhere in my travels. Not a huge problem, just odd. Our balcony view was of tin roofs, but not every room can have a good view.
This has come up previously so I will address it. We prohibit burners in the rooms to prevent electrical damage. As it is the power grid in Bocas is barelly suffucient and outages do occur. Having burners in the rooms would only cause more strain and damage. We hope you understand.
